Who's really the problem in the area of celebrity role models being bad at acting like role models? Is it the celebrities who refuse the responsibility that comes with the spot light or is it the society that allows them to be viewed as role models?

they're scapecoats. people like not taking responsibility for their actions. granted, its not like the celebrity directly enforced the action plus its not like their lives are any of our business.

When your entire career is based on popularity with the people, shouldn't some of these celebrities feel more inclined to accept the responsibility?

Also, hasn't it come to the point where the added responsibility is common knowledge to anybody trying to break into the limelight? They know they will be held to a higher standard than others yet they still act shocked when people refer to them as role models. Seems to me it would be expected and act as a great catalyst to ones career.

i dont really think people should be thrown into that position simply because they're good at entertaining and whatnot.

Thrown into it? Again, it's such a popular topic that nobody is "thrown into it". They walk right through the door being, at the least, partially aware of the requirements of the "position".

That's like looking at the jack ass dressed as a hotdog and saying, "Nobody should be made to do that". He volunteered for it the minute he clocked in.

Their job is to entertain, not to be a parental figure to the retarded children known as teh public. If someone can do 10 grams of coke the night before a football game and still perform, that's his fucking life.

obviously both. the real problem though is corporate media infotainment giving us them as bread and circuses to spin us into dumd down ignorance of, and indifference to, anything it would be usefull to know to create and maintain togather a gratifying way of life.

"Their job is to entertain, not to be a parental figure to the retarded children known as teh public. If someone can do 10 grams of coke the night before a football game and still perform, that's his fucking life."

this is also absolutely true. even their debachals being part of how corporate media uses them go keep us dumbd down and entertained. i just happen to not find entertainment for the most part gratifying, and class it with the rest of those things, we are exploited by being told to persue in hopes of gratification where there is little or none to be found. but yes, even the media circus about them, is part of the same whole spin circus of keeping us dumbed down and 'entertained'.

even the most well known are just bit players to the corporate mafia, that has usurped the politicial proccess and keeps us ignorant and exploitable.

Absurd question. The jack ass dressed as a hot dog is obviously not rich, successful, or happy looking. In fact it would appear, as appearances go, that he doesn't embody any of the qualities I lack or aspire to have.

Thank you themnax. I completely agree, and I like the fact that it ties into the war thread by reitterating the idea of distraction techniques made availabe by the ease of finding and delivering information quickly and in large quantities.

So you feel that they should be allowed to be completely devoid of a higher social responsibility?

the only person who'se social responsibility is anyone's bussiness, is their own.

    as it is everyone's.

like what smokey the bear used to say about preventing forest fires:

"ony YOU can practice social responsibility"

everyone expecting everyone ELSE to do so for them, can only resault in no one doing so. as it does and has.

yes everyone IS responsible for the examples they set
but that means EVERYone, not just someone a lot of people have heard of, or because they have.

Yeah, I'm going to go for the cop-out and say society too. It must suck to be an actor or a sportsman these days and find that, as soon as you start to get known, you have to be a sportsman second and every fucker's daddy substitute first.

What's the point in getting rich and famous if you can't act like an irresponsible jackass anyway?
