Ok. From what I have heard, parents can buy alcohol for their kids and let them drink it under their supervision. So, two questions: Is this true? and does the same rule apply for cigarretes/cigars?
No I don't think that's true. Parents can get into trouble for letting their underage children drink alcohol.
It depends on where you are. In Canada here, I believe it is ok for parents to provide their children with alcohol in their home and under their supervision. I don't think the same rule applies for tobacco. In Canada, the smoking age is 16, but to buy tobacco you must be 19.
yeah its like supplying alcohol to a minor or something like it. its trust and character imo, you dont hand a mentally challanged person a hand grenade, you dont let 10 year olds or people who cant cope drink. i dont know, i hate the way alcohol is now, but i wouldnt want it changed, too many people just completely go off the level. i mean i was so drunk and i was happy, not starting fights and shit
parents can get in trouble for alcohol because if the parents host a alcohol party for underaged kids but take away their keys so the kids are stuck there its still illegal if anyones find out but usually if its under control and in your own house people wont really care if its in public then you/your parents will get in trouble i dk about cigars/cigarettes again if its in your own house im sure its fine
in the netherlands parents can let their childern smoke at any age, though it will make them being looked down upon by others. the legal purchasing age is 16. i think you can legally drink under supervision at the age of twelve and buy light alcoholic beverages at the age of 16 and all the heavy stuff at the age of 18
I'm pretty sure in Texas its allowed for a parent to give their child alcohol. But it has to be within their supervision or something. It's really strange.
im pretty sure thats illegal here in arkansas. like a couple years ago this one kids mom bought some alcohol for a 9th grade graduation party and a couple of them went driving after drinking a bunch and they crashed and all died and the mom got into a bunch of shit, i think, i cant remember the story exactly. i remeber debating if the mom should get in any trouble in health class but i forget what the actual outcome was.
Yea it is true, as long as you are the only one drinking, they cannot provide someone else's son and/or daughther with alcohol, but its ok for u drink it if they allow you too, and you're parents dont let you out of the house its leagal... Not sure about the cigarette thing tho, but i would assume it was ok, whos gonna find out anyway?
In the UK (and the majority of western Europe to my understanding) you can drink in a private property from around 4. Which is the way it should be really, the french have got it right, you start drinking from a young age, so you don't treat it as some sort of amazing fun thing. Just a thing. That way you don't get so much stupid 'I bet I can corrode a hole in my liver before you can' culture.
It is legal for a person of under the age of 21 to drink legally with a parent or guardian in Wisconsin.. im not sure on how young though
In Ohio, legal purchasing age for tobacco is 18, but smoking/using age is 16. I don't see why it would be a problem if you smoked a cigarette in your parents home.
I heard theres no age limit on smoking cigs, just buying them in Massachusetts. My friends have walked by cops while smoking no problem, and I've rolled weed to look exactly like a cig and smoked in public so I think it's true.
i remember this being brought up in class when the school resource officer came in. I believe he said you cant get drunk its just so you can have like a glass of wine at dinner or something like if your from europe cause dont they let kids have a glass? And dont jewish people have wine on some holiday? thats what the law is for i think not so you can get trashed with your parents
yah its the same in arkansas. ive smoked cigs while talking with cops, well once at a sobriety checkpoint but the point is they dont care.
I asked my school cop and he said yeah(I didn't ask for you, this was in 9th grade). Your parents can let you drink but you can't be drunk, or outside of your house. And smoking is always illegal unless your 18+.
WEll I think it's true cuz my parents did it for me. My friends and I drank with them, smoked with them, played hacky with them and some partying with them. So yeahhhhhhh rock on!
Your parents are just cooler then most... My mom happens to be a bitch so I can't do anything with her.
I wish that's how things were in the states. All you Europeans probably think we are absolutely retarded with our college binge drinking culture. If we could drink from whenever we wanted, drinking alcohol would be like drinking anything else, it's ridiculous that you have to be 21. I also recently learned from a friend studying in England that the American sized shot of alcohol is double what it is across the pond. Us and our excess... fantastic way to live...
