I got back from a walk outside (which wasnt even in the woods) and i sat down at my desk and touched my hair and a little black bug fell on the desk from my "dreads" (they arent very locked). i got a pic of it here I looked up pics of lice online and it doesnt appear to be lice, but should I be concerned and take precautions?
Nah man, not a louse, looks like a shield/stink bug to me. Not a worry, they tend to live on shrubs and bushes, at least that sorta one. As far as I know they just eat leaves and such, so your dreads are safe by my reckoning. Pretty small in the pic though, so does http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shield_bug seem to look right?
its a tick,, i didnt look at the pic at first.. id check all yer nooks an crannies an make sure no more latched on to ya...
I dunno HHB, doesn't look right for a tick, it's too dark to be a non-full one and too unbloated to be a full one, and were it in-between it wouldn't have fallen off. Shield bug nymphs tend to be darker coloured, and there are some dark browny black ones. Probably best to check just in case of it being a tick though, though unless you've felt any sorta biting at all since the walk I wouldn't worry too much.
Yeah I agree... definently looks like a tick. Just one that's unbloated and hungry. Haaaaaate those things, kinda glad I don't live in the country anymore because of those things.
definsately a tick tea tree oil should repell them pretty well theyr also attracted to sweet blood so diet makes a difference i hsvent had any in years and years maybe 2 in the past 10 years and i spoend aloytta time in the woods its funny i could be tihgt next to someone and they'd get 20 in 5 minutes and i wouldnt get any
ticks suck. i know a guy who had to remove all of his beautiful dreads because of them. inspect your entire head for them and then do it again, just to be safe.
Either use something such as rubbing alcohol or nail polish to smother and sufforcate them, then pinch them and try carefully to pull them out if they don't come out already. Just becareful not to let the head stay in your skin.
dont pinch them or put alcohol or anything like that on them!! dont use a cigarrette!!! anything like that will cause the tick to regurgitate its previous meals, acting like a hypodermic syringe and injecting you with blood from what ever it ate from last. grim on its own, but also a sure fire way to get a tick borne disease. if you live in tick country, you need a set of these; http://www.otom.com/ yep it really is just a small piece of plastic, but these things work. they will remove a tick head and all in a second or 2, legs still wriggling. mine only cost a couple of pounds, and i wouldnt be without em now.
