one of my fav bands ^_^ We should really put the genre on these bands though, so we all know what we're getting into. John Butler Trio is amazing - they're sorta hmm... how do you explain their music? I will let someone else describe them then XD They are my fav band anyway. The Waifs are a bit like John Butler Trio, if you find you like them, too. Morcheeba is amazing - already said. I cna't really think of any more, but I prolly will in time
I love man man, talk about a show the rest of the bands mentioned in this thread suck or I have not heard them
I remember Autentique posted a thread with a link to this a few months ago. The thread was called Def Poetry Jam if I remeber rightly and only got a handful of replies. Pathetic. This is indeed masterful and semi-orgasmic.
Saul Williams has to be one of my favorite writer/spoken word poet ever. His words are just amazing and how he puts them together to have meaning and to flow so beautiful... I love music that has a purpose and meaning... That's why I love extremely old blues as well because they are singing about their struggles and about their lives not to gain popularity or fame, it's real and it's raw and I love it...
Adachi tomomi's stuff is really really different and I love how he makes his own instruments (which also Konono No.1 does as well with their some of their instruments which they make from junk ) This is one of his works performed by students... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLFDM4OyfyM and here is Konono No.1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cU19URUe6o as a side note.. Augustus Pablo is also on my top list...
This thread is so arrogant. Anyone who knows and wants to know alternative music knows the Mars Volta. I hate them. Deloused at the Crematorium was good but they've produced nothing that great since then. It all sounds the same. His voice is consistently whiny and irritating. Its nothing to do with not being able to appreciate them, their music really does all sound the same. I liked At the Drive In better....not as musically dynamic or groundbreaking, but awesome nonetheless. Fuck all your shit metal bands. I don't need to be told what to listen to.
keller williams...interesting stuff, fun to listen to..i cant really get into mars volta too much, a couple songs are good
hah. mars volta? underground? hardly. i just saw them at austin music hall. couple million people there. i was right by the stage and got lots of injuries and couldn't hear for 3 days after. i saw les claypool a couple weeks before, which was a much better show... check out the parlor mob, i saw them during sxsw and they're great live.
haha yeah, cuz this thread is titled "5 bands if you haven't YOU NEED TO. FACE EATER!!!" have to agree tho, deloused WAS the best and cedric's voice IS annoying.
YOu guys are all bent out of shape because i think you NEED to hear these bands. I'm just trying to start topics and share music that you may not of heard, you people need a nap.
i'm on your side here hellvis, i was saying this thread isn't directed at anyone in particular, and if he doesn't want to listen to the music... he don't have to.
Agreed, i'm being an arrogant, grumpy asshole. Still if the bands were actually good I'd be slightly more forgivable, you dig?
Well it's understandable faceeater i TOTALLY expect you all to be arragant grumpy closed minded assholes. However if i could turn ONE person on to on eof those bands i like and bring someone else the joy i get listening to those bands then fuck it it's worth it to me.
That is a nice thing to say and I respect it. The irony is that those bands annoy me much like a mosquito does on a silent summer evening. It is just the way it goes....one man's (you know how the saying goes)
My top 5 favourite bands are Belle and Sebastian, The Smiths, The Kinks (most underrated 60s band), Jens Lekman and Wilco. If I had to mention any bands that I felt were obscure, underrated or not listened to enough I would pick - Tex, Don and Charlie - Country band headed by Tex Perkins of the Cruel Sea. Very beautiful music. If you live in Australia pick up their last album at JB Hi-fi for $5, bargain. Townes Van Zdant - Not very well known here, don't know about the US. IMO the best country songwriter that I have heard. Interesting guy, lived a lot of his life drunk and on the bum despite his success as a musician. The Housemartins - Fatboy Slim's 80s band. Fun 80s pop, like the smiths, with some hilarious a capella stuff like "The Caravan of Love" The Lucksmiths - Sweet sounding, lo-fi Aussie indy band. The only good album is "Where were we?" but its one of my favourites. Sole - The best and only rapper I listen to a fair bit. An anarchist. There is so much more cool music out there yet to discover for me. I feel I am only scraping the surface.
