..I am bereft of heroes because of you. To all you sell-outs who lived, who loved, who manifested the common dream of the 1960s entirely, who embraced and realized boundless freedom, who taught and sang of life as a utopian dream in which we should all be our own fantasy, our own ecstasy, who embodied this communal spirit of boundlessness only to SELL-OUT... ..Who came to ACCEPT and EMBRACE the social norms they once gave everything to fight... ...Whose songs made me BELIEVE IN SOMETHING... ...Whose insincerity tore my belief away... You are all liars! I am bereft of heroes because of you.
This message brought to you by Chevy Trucks, Powerful independent trucks, owned by powerful independent people...lol.
George Harrison described haight ashbury as "a bunch of spotty drop out kids on drugs" "it was horrible"
Ah - "The aroma of Rebellious Youth, How quickly they all learn To challenge those around, with such venom so sincere To look within their World, that’s filled with hope, they hold so dear Believing that it’s coloured just, in Black and White, so clear" "Thank goodness, that the Spirit still, is there to activate That someone feels so passionately, to even border hate (?) It is with pride that those before, take these comments filled with angst A backhanded compliment it is, perhaps they should just say Thanks"(?!) "Hold true your Beliefs, Keep your faith, Fight the Fight - - for those who fought for them - before you had the opportunity!" <Peace + Love ~ Save the Planet> +
I am sorry, but to look at us as heroes is not what we had in mind. We tryed our best. But we had to many things going against us. First we had ourselves, some were in it only to protest the war, some wanted to get rid of goverment, some wanted a non materialistic land others wanted to live free and off the land, in our midst we were infiltrated by the true radicals, the Weathermen, the Yippies and so on, that made society in general look down on us even more that they did in the first place, our movement fell apart, but we did try very hard to make it work. We falied but some things have changed because of us. Many of us still have the same values as we did before but it is hard to put them in to practice. call it selling out or what ever we had to live we had to get along so as always we did what it took to get by. Please look hard at who you look to as heroes. We had a goverment hell bent on killing us so if you must have heroes from that time look to the ones who died for ther beliefs, May 4th is coming up, look to the four that were shot down for standing up, look to the four at kent state as heroes of our time, because they truly were. As for the rest of us we try to keep our heads in the right place and wait. Who knows we may come back when people are tired of being sheep. Till then all you can do is your best. Allison Krause (1951 - 1970) - Find A Grave Memorial Not sure if I am allowed to do this, but if you are looking for a hero, check this one out. A true hero. Peace
the hippie movement is dead. the only thing left is its inspiration, what are you gonna do with that? use it well....
That is your perspective of the time, your history was our current events."realized boundless freedom"? Sorry that only happened in your imagination. "signs signs everwhere theres signs do this dont do that cant you read the signs?" "SELL OUT" you shout out. Do you mean work to support ourselves, raise a family, try to make the world a better place for our next generation by becoming politically active? Well shame on us. Music made you believe in something? There were more songs sung than you seemed to listen to. Not all of them were "floweres in your hair" some of them were " one, two, three, what are we fighting for? Don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is VietNam". Womens rights, civil rights, ending the war, are a few things we fought for. We didn't achieve everything we set out to do, but we did change the minds and hearts of a big portion of America on things that better your life today. We didn't sell out, we infiltrated the enemys ranks. Keep the faith. Remember Kent State. Thats for you S. ~Peace
sill little bereft of heroes guy... don't you know that cops and firefighters are the real heroes? and and and televangelists! dude, there's no such thing as a hero
Dr.King, Gandhi, Mandela, are three of mine. Anyone willing to sacrifice all for the unrewarded benefit of others, imho, is a hero.
Don't give up, WoodstockChild. The youth are coming around, and those of us who see the truth now can look back on the failings (and successes!) of our predecessors. It's not all bad.
At the age of 16 you really have no right to judge people who have for the most part tried to live thier lives as best they could. My sister would have loved to continue her hippie lifestyle, but she got pregnant and the father was no where to be seen, so she got a job and did what she had to do to give her son a good life. She had to consider her sons welfare, not just her own. She worked, put herself through college and raised a fine man (who is now 30), while you consider her a sellout, she is my hero.
when i report this news back to the Hero Working Group at the Freak Bureau they're gonna be crushed.
Almost word for word what I was going to say! Be your own hero because looking to another is a recipe for disappointment.
I agree, I am trying to be a hero. I don't exactly know how I can impact our society, but I try. Who knows, maybe one day my generation and the generations to come will eliminate war, racism, sexism and hatred of one another. Maybe one day we'll learn to love one another and the only religion will be love.
Well the Beatniks, the peace-niks, the diggers, the hippies, the yippies and everything in between tried to make a better, more benign world. It's the younger generation's turn.
