Too small. Unless you want to grow one shroom. LOL. Quart jars m friends, quart jars. And it doesn't really matter if they're tapered. You can just break it up with a fork and pull it all out. You need to spread it in a thin layer anyway. It's the best way to go.

i thought that the amount of substrate used only affects the size of the shrooms, not the total yeild.

No way. For the PF Tek, half-pints are perfect. I don't think they even make wide-mouth quart jars. And actually, they're preferred cause they colonize quicker, giving a n00b less of a chance of contams.

Yes they will do. They are perfect. Why would you want to have twice as many jars at half the size?

    Yeah, just fine.

Because they colonize faster, so you have less risk of contaminants.

Those work, but I'd still suggest the half-pint. I've tried both and the half are just easier to work with in general. Yours will work, though.

A full quart jar will fill an etire tray perfectly. No mixing jars just to make a full cake for a tray. Plus if you ever do anything larger scale...well do the math. :)

You are supposed to use 1/2 pint jars for PF Tek. That is what Rylyc is most likely doing and I think he is going to fruit the cakes and not case them so the jars need to be wide mouth.
If you are doing grains that is when you use quart jars (or bigger) and it doesn't matter if they are wide mouth because like Salmon said, you break up the grains anyways when you case. Right now I actually have 6 half gallon jars of grains 50% colonized that I am going to use to make some big ass casings. It should be bad ass.
