Well recently the states have legalized...real..europian absinthe. It was origonally only sold in a couple states...new york, new jersey and two others. Just recently it became available in mass and i got a bottle of it. 60 bucks for a fucking liter. 62% alcohol. Its called Lucid and the bottle it comes in is very nice. It tastes fucking horrible, exactly like black liquorice. The strange thing was that it didn't burn at all, if i liked the taste of liquorice it would have been amazing. It was clear liquid, i was under the assumption it was green but supposedly you can turn it green by adding cold water or something.

    Anyone else try Lucid yet?

Lol. It isn't supposed to be burned.
Adding water will make it palatable, not green.

Usualy absinthe is green to begin with, adding cold water only brings it to a drinkable form, you should never hit that shit straight, gotta slowly drop water in, if it's good it'll loosh do some swirly shit and may turn a pearly white color.
Straight from the still the absinthe is clear and will loosh without the finish, the finish is usualy an herb soak that gives the absinth a green tone and some added flavor, ours usualy comes out a bright neon emerald green.

I've been drinking La FeƩ (68%) lately, the a-thujone in absinthe actually antagonizes the effects of alcohol; hallucinations? hah, no.. it's just another deleriant. i suppose feels ok, except afterwards (major headache)

When was it legal in NY?? I was under the impression that it was illegal everywhere and would never be legal again! Exciting news if it is true, but do you have proof? Are you sure it's not the cheap knockoff they're manufacturing in NJ? That's the only kind I've ever had and I DESPERATELY want to get ahold of the real thing...

Ive heard of absinthe a lot, but I have no idea why it was illegal. I thought it was just wormwood alcohol, and wormwood is legal, right?

I've tried it. It's really fucking strong. Whatever you do, keep to the liquor before beer rule with this one, I got really sick off of it. It reminds me of Jager, maybe because they're both herbal liquors?

Lucid isn't real absinthe. Well, it is, but the thujone content is shit. I know a guy with a still who makes his own, and I can't handle more than 3-4 drinks mixed with water and sugar in the traditional way. Me and 3 other people killed a bottle of Lucid in a night, drinking it straight.

And it doesn't make you trip, just kind of makes you more lucid. The thujone puts you in a different mindset and gives you a little energy.

im a big fan of absinthe. i like the flavor of it when its done right. in order really get the full experiance of it you have to prepare it right. the sugar cub and the ice water, right portions of each. its a bit of a science to get it right and a lot of tasting to find the right dilute that you like. but thats the fun part.
dont think of it as something that will get you fucked up but as something to have a conversation over as you drink it.
as far as the tripping thing, not really. it feels like you are a little drunk and a little stoned at the same time. no seeing green fairies. very relaxing when not done in excess.

thats exactly how drinking absinthe should be. its a ritual, drinking absinthe should be similar to the way u drink wine.
