Here is my story, If anyone can point the right direction Id be forever grateful...

Hello friends, Id introduce myself but you know how it is, and Im that good at it anyways. Im writing this because I've had social anxiety for about 13 years now and am about to turn 29. Id always been shy, but when I was 16 I had a bad acid trip and a few crappy ones after that basically made me very AWARE of that part of me. Lately I've started to wonder if I will ever overcome it. Through the years Some parts of my anxiety have gotten better, but some of them are getting much worse these last few. I feel that I am a beautiful person inside and out,I care deeply for people and genuinely want to help and connect with them, but have a VERY hard time doing so.

Just recently got a good job where I work with A LOT more people than I ever have before. Since Ive started my panic attacks have gotten worse and they have happen in front of multiple people including my supervisors AND their supervisors!

Ive only taken small amounts of xannax a few times, but I ended up having to take 1 to 1.5mg of of them and I would still be freaking out all day long for the most part. I ended up getting a few klonopins and have taken .5mg about 20 minutes before work along with .5mg of xanax. Usually when I get to work I feel a little relaxed going in, but if i have to do anything I havent done before and especially if I have to talk to somebody, once again Im totally panicy. Usually once I get to my desk and on the phone I will start to relax a little more. Unfortionately it doesnt last for long and I will usually have to take .5mg of xannax more, sometimes twice.

I have remained at 1mg of zannax for the about 3 weeks and I have just started taking klonopins this last week. I feel now that I am on the Kpins I have been able to have 2 conversations with people without FREAKING out, I really cant remember talking to anyone like that before without feeling very uncomfortable. Still if certian people that I think 'know' or new people try to talk to me I freak.

Two years ago I took paxil and effexor for about 6 months eatch and though they helped with a few things, I felt they made a lot of things harder and did not really help enough with my anxiety to go further with them. I was also diagnosed with ADD when I was in 1st grade if that means anything and took a very low dose of it for about a year and felt it made me a zombie. And also had a bad acid experience that really made me AWARE of it.

Im really concerned because I really dont want to be on medication for the rest of my life. I have been fight this for a long time with very little meds and no results to speak of.

If anyone has any advice about what might help me or advice about medications besides ssri's and maoi's (Im a little scared of them) please let me know.

I feel like Im taking TOO much as it is and I can still barely handle all of the pressure!

I can't say what WILL WORK for YOU, but I can OFFER some "usefull" SUGGESTIONS, that HAVE WORKED for "OTHER PEOPLE":

2) "EXERCISE" DAILY, to "REDUCE STRESS" (by "DISSIPATING" (or "RE-DIRECTING") "NERVOUS ENERGY"), as "RECOMMENDED" by MANY PSYCHIATRISTS and DOCTORS!!!

3) DEVELOPE MANY 'HOBBIES" and "ACTIVITIES" to "FOCUS-ON", so you ARE NOT FOCUSING on your "ANXIETIES"!!! This also "helps" to RE-DIRECT "NERVOUS ENERGY", and USE IT UP!!!

4) IF you have "DEEP-SEATED" PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES, a "HYPNO-THERAPIST" is worth a TRY!!!

5) "MEDITATION" CLASSES may HELP, or even "BIO-FEEDBACK" TRAINING!!!

I've thought about becoming a PSYCHIATRIST (or a PSYCHOLOGIST), so I took many PSYCHOLOGY, ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY and SOCIOLOGY classes - BOTH in HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE, I have an old "PSYCHIATRIC DESK REFERENCE" PROFESSIONAL BOOK (that I bought, sometime in the 70's, from a University of Michigan (U of M) "MEDICAL BOOKSTORE", in ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN).

If you "RE-DIRECT" your "ANXIETIES" INWARD, then that will TURN-INTO a "DEPRESSION" (which is NOT as DESIRABLE). It is BEST to TREAT the ""ANXIETIES", before any DEPRESSIONS can set in!!!

I completely know where you're coming from...I've had really bad anxiety (and depression) since I was a little kid...it hasnt gone away, though I have found things to control it... My biggest advice is, don't fuck around with your meds. Find either a doctor or a psychiatrist who is actually knowledgeable and wise about this stuff and can help you. A crappy pill doctor is no better than you just 2self-medicating. I had bad experiences with psychiatrists and doctors until I found the one I'm going to now. I go just to check up on it about every 2 months. Sometimes nothing changes, but he just talks to me about how I'm feeling and what's going on in my life and tries to help. He's a doctor, he's not even a psychiatrist but I've gotten to know him really well and I trust him. He talks to me about all the different treatment choices, and the consequences of them. He has a holistic approach to it and focuses on how I'm feeling as a whole as opposed to focusing on individual issues and neglecting everything else...he sees mental health in relation to my physical health, all of which are affected by my life and my emotions. If you had a bad heart, there would be no hesitation to get it treated...you wouldnt accept it and say it's just the way you are and that treating it would take away from who you are...if you're not mentally healthy, why is it any different? He's been an incredible help to me. He really feels that medication is just a tool to be clear enough to deal with the problems I face in life...If I'm mentally and physically healthy, I can make my own decisions and deal with my own problems. If you look at medication that way, it doesnt seem as bad as people seem to think it is. So if you do take that path, you should do it right... Physical and mental health can be treated with the medications available to doctors. Spiritual health can't be. If things like LSD were available for doctors to use for therapy, medicine would have advanced further than we could imagine... Albert Hofmann died earlier this week. He was 102. So, what does that say about LSD?
And you mentioned how it helped you...
There are of course, many other ways to help your problems. I'm only telling you about what I've chosen to do for myself. Nobody can tell you what you SHOULD do; it's all your choice.

Hi, sorry to hear about your difficulties.

You might want to look into CBT - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy , I've heard it can have good results. It's a practical approach to tackling mental problems, working on your attitudes and beliefs, and offering ways to deal with situations.
