I am just curious ... I was born and raised and brought up catholic... Is there any "End Time" prophecies in Hinduism about what is going on in the world right now and the things that are to come? A Golden Age? A massive change in consciousness? Obviously I have to come to grip with the fact the world is not gonna blow up... I am just curious as to what Vedic wisdom has to teach on this topic. Thanks
There's nothing comprable to the Book of Revelation in Hinduism. There's no idea of a last judgement, no eternal damnation, and God is not seen as a judge - it is the laws of nature which act as 'judge', or specifically the law of karma which determines one's future re-birth. There are different teachings coming from different sources regarding the cosmological time-frame in which we live. Orthodox Hindus believe this is Kali Yuga, the dark age, when people become forgetful of their divine origin, and ignorance and darkness increase and hold sway. It lasts many thousands of years, and we're only 6,000 years into it. Others believe in a golden age of some kind, either within the Kali Yuga, or as a new age which will dawn. According to the teaching given in Bhagavad Gita, the universe is manifested in huge cycles. It is created, dissolved again, and re-created over and over again. All that is according more or less to orthodox Hindu belief. There are many different ideas about it all coming from different schools and gurus.
There is the concept of pralaya , which is essentially the dissolution of the universe, but it is based on the idea that universe goes through cycles, it comes about, then it stays there for some time and it dissolves and then it comes about.... kind of like a waves that form on the ocean water near the beach. So in that sense, you won't perish... You are there forever in different forms.
Yes - I know his idea. Personally, I don't really attach too much relevance to stuff of this nature - once again, it can become a big distraction from the path. I think a new era for humanity is possible, but it will need a big awakening to bring it in. A lot, in fact, almost everything, will have to change.
Yea I dont exactly subscribe to anything of the like either, just makes interesting reading Much of his book I agree with though, but any future prediction, especially one concerning massive drastic change, just seems inevitable and better left without mention.
I dont think Im judging him either positivly or negativly, Im just stating that his future predictions seem quite obvious, given the past's natural tendency to be prone to repitition. I guess by saying it is better off left unsaid is a judgement, but even Yukteswar himself says in the very same book that his words will go unnoticed and without any real appreciation concerning the subject, which seems to be about the same position I am coming from.
I think that whether you accept this or that set of prophecies or predictions of the future, we need to see that this is secondary to the main thing which is to try to develop one's own spiritual consciousness here and now. Whatever the future, on an individual or collective level, the way into it is through the Divine.
