Last night at a local Starbucks in Phoenix, AZ, our topic of discussion was: The role of humans in this world. We started at 8 PM and ended up past 2 AM. It was very interesting live discussion. The question was: What role do we play in our ecosystem? What is the main purpose of humans species on planet Earth? Why are we here? What is expected from us. Who are we and why are we here on Earth?

Any comments? The floor is yours.

Our role on the earth? I don't think we have a role properly speaking. We survived until now, that's why we're here...

We do have a wanton domination over other ecosystems thought, and the damages we are doing are very regrettable.

I agree with your cycle of life. I guess everything gets recycled.

We are converting the planet from rock to dirt.

The more dirt on the earth, the more opportunities for life to capture energy... the more life that may live here.... the more life may evolve... which betters the chance life will continue in some form.

We and everything we consider "alive" is the culmination of billions or more? years of DNA being transferred, copied, added, subtracted... etc etc... all from a base with the purpose of... copying itself.

Evolution from a virus is my theory, where the virus came from/how it came to be and its original way of sustaining itself/how it adapted and mutated into me... tough to answer.

Why are we here? We're here because none of our direct ancestors died before they were able to reproduce. Our ancestors survived. Those of us that have children will have survived to have children; those of our children that survive to have children will have survived to have children, and so on. Our progeny will be there because we were here and made them. We are here because our ancestors were here, and made us.
