Ive been reading around on the internet about marijuana stats for a project im doing in school.(powerpoint, its gonna be great). Throughout many websites it says after one joint of marijuana your reaction time while driving can be 40% slower. After two joints, it can be up to 60% slower. Where did this come from? I think they want people to hate it more. I dont agree at all.
Yeah, well, sometimes after smoking...something funny will happen and it can take me a LONG time to realize it and laugh. So I don't doubt that it's true. Maybe not to that extent, but I think it does delay your reaction time to things. Obviously this can be bad when driving, so maybe they exaggerate to scare people into not smoking and driving.
It makes different people react in different ways. It can slow some peoples' reaction time way down, while barely having any affect at all on other peoples' reaction time. It can make some people dull and unmotivated, while improving other peoples' concentration and making them even more motivated. It all depends on the individual and you can't rely on any studies, as far as the mental effects are concerned.
haha thought i was trippin there for a sec... but no i just reread ur guys post twice. i was like wtf!? and no... im not high.
I really doubt there's substantial evidence to back up that claim. In the bbc documentary should i smoke dope, cannabis was proven to be less dangerous then alcohol, however, i wouldn't advocate driving under the influence anyway, i'd much prefer to chill.
Well thats because it is true. Sure you probably won't get into a crash but when your high the chances raise. It's like driving drunk except a little bit safer.
This is why weed is still illegal. Not because of these claims, but because people like you think that it dosent have any negative effects. The fact is, it DOES increase the likelihood you will crash. ALOT. Think about how easily you get distracted when you are stoned. Or how your mind just drifts away. Weed is a drug. Im not saying it should be illegal, because alcohol is a drug as well. But it is, and it does have some adverse effects. Less dangerous ones then alchol, and much less long term negative effects, but driving stoned is retarded. If you want to put yourself at risk thats one thing. But if your driving stoned, your putting others at risk as well, and in my book, thats just not fair.
Amen Brother! Its actions that put others at risk that is the problem. The BBC documentary had the driver on a closed course no pedestrians, cross traffic, etc. Get high enough and its tough to follow a cartoon for 10 minutes.
I get really hyper when I'm stoned, so making generalizations about what weed does to a person is highly inncaurate.
For the record.....I LOVE driving when I'm stoned:spliff: In fact, riding down the road with the music blaring is my favorite time to smoke a fatass blunt with a couple of buddies; hotboxing the fuck out of the car. hahaha
thats just more lies about weed they make up to scare poeple theirs no way to measure that theres too many variables like tolerence, potency of the weed, how big are the joints and stuff its all bullshit in my opinion and also what jusdino4it said haha
I think weed can impair your driving to be dangerous, but in most cases, in most people, no. I think it does differ from person to person. But that just sounds stupid that they actually calculated a percentage........
w/o any legal setbacks, i'd love to go in for some weed testing. reflexes, memory, anything. i say this, cause i'm one of the ppl that say smoking just enhances everything. a functional pothead. this ontop of a good tolerance, i've driven and smoked A LOT before without any accidents or near accidents. anyone who's ever been in the car with me tends to agree; smoking doesn't seem to have a negative affect on my motorskills, reflexes, decision making what have you. it's funny actually, this is kind of a running joke with some of my friends. whenever we go places where not everyone can fit in one car, ppl will fight to hop into the one i'm driving if we're all baked. there have been instances where while baked, i've steered out of other ppl almost hiting us. but at the same time, recently my friend jen just learned how to drive. (she's put it off fora while) and now that she drives, she always says "i haveno fucking idea how you guys do this stoned" so i could see how the opposite would be true. i guess it depends on how it affects you.
One time, I drove after eating 21 benadryls. That was some stupid shit. I remember seeing cars that weren't there and NOT seeing cars that WERE there, because my friends kept telling me to "watch out for that car!" and I was like "what car?" I can't even believe I made it to my destination. My friends were all freaking out because they thought I was gonna wreck and kill us all, and I was just laughing the whole time. haha That was an idiotic thing to do though, and I can't believe I was stupid enough to do it.
^ yeah dude benadryl is fucked up. i don't drive but i'd probably be a bad driver stoned...but my friend drives us around when he's high all the time with no problems
ive drove on different occasions stoned. ive never had any trouble except i get confused with the roads. for instance, busy intersections and not sure to turn on green or green arrow and stuff.
ye i def agree it wud impair ur driving i dont drive yet (couple more months) but i probly wouldent drive while stoned just because it would cost so much with your insuence going up and eveyrthing i just dont think I could do it without somthing happening
I wait for the hubby to be thinking clearly before we go anywhere. alcohol is much worse IMO, but weed does affect (effect?) your judgment.
obviously thats made up haha. always exactly 2 joints will slow your reaction time exactly 60%. i dont remember the last time when i was too high to drive, i dont think its possible anymore.
