im really concerned about the scalp showing. The problem is it shows only on the top of my head, and the rest is nice and covered. Is there anything i can do? I think it may keep showing because i like to maintain them, and crochet loose hair. Do you think if i leave the top part alone a bit, it will get better?

Just leave it alone.....I've heard other people mention that problem before. They said that it gets better with time. TIME is probably the answer to 90% of dreadlock questions...

your exposing the scalp everytime u stick loose hairs into existing dreads
when u rip dreads to seperate u create a fuzz that fills in the gaps and covers the scalp the fuzz grows and becomes baby dreads

how many years do u want to spend crochetting each and every loose hair?
dreads are wash n wear.. they take care of themselves pretty much..
put away the croichet hook and leave em be and you will see

Scalp showing is a concern of mine as well. Only mine isn't so much on the top, but on the right side if my head. Its comforting to hear time will take care of it. Mine was a result of poor sectioning. There is nothing worse than an exposed scalp w/ dreads imo (on myself).

How much has to be exposed before it's "just too far gone" to ever fix itself?

edit-- Took an image of it- Its only seen from the side. If you look at the other pics in my gallery you'll see that its as if its not even there, but this picture really shows it at its worst.

Its driving me nuts. I'm going to comb through the dread and split it into two smaller dreads to avoid that mess of a problem. Only problem is I backcombed it too tight and I can't for the life of me comb it out... :( Any ideas on what I can do about this?

I also stand the rist of it all falling out and ending up with an even bigger problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I plan to get some detangler spray and wash it with conditioner and hope it will work. I've been looking it over more and more and it really should be two separate dreads.

My opinion is it looks fine. Certainly don't go combing and spraying chemicals in your hair. It will work out. Unless you are worried about people bringing attention to a slight bare spot, but that's silly. Good luck and cheers

what do u fdo besides ripping? whatever it is, just stop it.. ripping awhilke will fill in the balkd spots with lil fuzzineress that awhile later will become a baby dread..

Thats the thing, I haven't done anything to it aside from washing... not even ripped it yet since for some odd reason they don't ever seem to attatch. It looks the way it does because I sectioned it poorly :( Hair is pulled from a wide area and it really should be two dreads, but... oh well.

Anyway, thanks for the comments and I decided just to let it be and see how it turns out. I just know to be extra careful next time.
