What was going through the minds of all presidential candidates when they agreed to take part in the "Compassion Forum"?

    U. S. Constitution, Article VI, paragraph III:

To me their very participation illustrates their flagrant disregard for the constitution.

*looks at you with disdain and confusion to determine whether you're actually being serious or not*

I don't know what the "Compassion Forum" is about, but it appears that participation is voluntary on their part.

    What is the "Compassion Forum"?

Here's a little information about it for those of you that missed it.

One of the questions for Hillary:

And one of Obama's responses to the question of religion and science:

Looks like a test of faith to me. And for two people running for the highest office in this nation governed by the constitution, why would they set the precident of taking part in media event that put's religion on the table.

What I would expect from serious candidates is for them to gracefully decline with a statement that their religious beliefs are a personal matter.

looks like more of an opportunity to use faith and religion to gain votes.

Why would ANYONE still vote for a Democrat or Republican?

well, the USA is a strange country.

The rest of the Western World is completely secular, and decreasingly less Christian, but the USA remains strongly Christian.

Democrat or Republican, they are very Christian.

Its so alien...whats happening in Pennsylvania with Hillary attacking Barack over his "clinging to guns and religion" comment. In Canada, the political left would high five each other over a comment like that, not attack each other.

And in Canada, you'd never see a Liberal politician (or even a Conservative politician) be part of a venue like the Compassion Forum.

I personally don’t believe Christianity (not including the Westboro Baptist Church) is what’s wrong with America, just the people we put in power, and how they USE their power. If they are using people's faith to manipulate them, then yes that must stop. Ideally, religion should have no bearing on politics, and this is where we need to go. Therefore, I would hope it would then be irrelevant that most Americans are Christians (indeed, I believe that is good for America in comparison to the rest of the world).

Is that what their religion actually means to them? An opportunity to play a popularity card?
