So my dreadlocks just turned 5 months old. I backcombed them mahself. After about 3-4 months I noticed they were much thinner than I had hoped, so I got a crochet hook and joined a bunch of them together. I think there's just a bit over 70, now. My problem is, they don't seem to be knotted up where I joined them. I wove them into each other and some of them look okay, but some of them just look braid-ish, if that makes sense. They're growing in fine at the roots, but then just get smaller the further down the dread you go. Is that even normal? They don't seem to be getting any thicker at all....
I don't really know what to tell you....I'd say just leave them alone and let mother nature take care of it. Maybe they will get thicker, maybe not. Was your hair thin to start with? Just try to be patient and keep your hands off em, if they want to join up with each other, then they will...
My hair was never really thin at all. But I started with my hair pretty short...well for me anyway. It was just to my chin.
yea joining up is the natural tendency but they join at ther roots only ahnd grow thicker from thyere with split ends they may por may not over toime grab enough loose hairs to fill in the brasidedness but doubyt it
see the thicker dread close to my face? the split at eye level is now at nipple level and from that point to tip of that dreads the length of my arm down another hmm 18 inches is another split at hmm grion level with 2 about anothrer 2 feet long from there the 3 combined over many years to thicken up into 1 but the 3 that formed the 1 will always be thin towardss the ends you should just let em go drop the hook snd let em dread they will combine more then u want them to, the trick isnt getting them to, its keeping them from if u can undoi the braided whatever i would id get rid of the hook too everytime u poke a hook thru a dread u do dammage
