I remember I visited two of them quite often, though no a lot, when we were children. A boy, who lives in the same city as me - we used to play together; the other one, a girl two years younger than me, who lives in a far-away village in the mountains - we used to play together quite little when we went there for summer holidays, as I didn't like her much. As teens, we grew apart completely, not seen one another in ages. She has a husband and a child. He couldn't manage with university but he liked to do physical work and gain money. Such as carrying stuff for a patron or even cleaning stables abroad... I have graduated university in the meantime and I'm single. Different personalities, different interests...

I only have two cousins. One is two weeks older than me, the other is turning 10 this summer. The older one I have nothing in common with, and to be honest, she's the type of personality I just can't stand. The younger one is awesome, she's a great kid and we're very close though we only see each other a few times a year as she lives in Finland. She's like a little sister to me, I'm the cool big sis who teaches her all kinds of tricks to drive her parents crazy, plays in the mud with her and teaches her to dance to the Beatles. Aww I miss her.. :(

I'm not too close with most of my cousins on my fathers side of the family and I don't think I ever was. I'm closer with my other cousins though

Close enough with my cousins. I don't call them up and hang out much...but at weddings and funerals we manage to have a good time...(my family can't be all serious for too long...people probably get offended but oh well, that is how we deal with grief)

I am very close with my brother (we are the middle children of 4), I call him up all the time and we hang out.

There is actually a "cousin" wedding coming up in July, we will all be there and it should be a blast. Especially because I know the groom's mother and she is quite snobby..wait'll she sees what her son is marrying into :D

Haha there was a guy that married into my family with a snob for a mother. She made a catty comment about how we are all dumb, poor, rednecks. Haha we all started talking about the members of the family that couldn't be there because they were in prison for murder. lol she looked terrified. My uncle asked why one cousin was in prison for murder....my aunt said, "cause some yankee called him a dumb, poor redneck."

there's three or four of them i would have slept with when i was a teen ager. atleast one of which would have been more then willing. only trouble, we lived on opposite sides of a continent and none of us then were that mobile. at any rate i can't say close or not other then not in the sense of hardly ever met more then half a dozzen of them. and of those, maybe only one or two i've ever seen more then once in my life.

only relatives i ever saw more then half a dozen times in my life were my parents. and i was an only child besides.

all of em, lived on the or near the east coast, and we lived rather near the west.

still pretty much the case too, as far as i know. although i know they've all moved arround a bit once they got out on their own. but none of them, as far as i know, ever moved out here.

    =^^=

Yeah, I'm super close with my cousins. We spend birthdays together, celebrate turning 19 by going to a pub together and hang out all the time. I show up at their work and bug them. We hang out at each other's place and try to continue the sleepovers and go camping together even though we're all young adults now. I'm even friends with my second and third cousins.

I've got some pretty great pictures of my cousins that I shall post in this thread of when we were younger.

Thanks Annie. What about you and your cousins?

And yeah, my family is pretty cool. Everyone has the black sheep, the strange and tragic family secrets and all that, but my family really sticks together through it all. It's really nice.

I've actually been having some financial difficulties recently, living out on my own. I'm moving to a new place near campus so I can hopefully save more money. I got a letter in the mail from my Nana that said that she had some left over money for the month, with a cheque for $200. I started crying.

My Nana wrote that I shouldn't spend it all on dill pickles. I had told her that I come over to people's places and raid their dill pickles, because I can't really afford to buy things like that. It's really nice to know that someone listens to me and cares about me.

My Nana has been living by herself for over 30 years and has taught me how to cook meals for one person, how to do things yourself and how to manage work, school, friends, and juggle everything as a young woman. I have a very good relationship with her, and although I wouldn't say that I really needed the money as if it were life and death, I am so grateful that she just decided to send it to me in a letter. I finished my exams, I never asked for help, and I try to be a good grand daughter and make her proud. It really made me feel appreciated and proud of myself opening that letter.

Hahaha, I walked to the store and bought real shampoo - the expensive stuff - not just the 2 in 1.

Family is a pretty staple part of my life. I'd get homesick if I picked up and moved across the country. I'm sure you feel the same way, Annie.

kinda same story here with my dads side. My twin, cousin and me used to be such good mates and used to love going round each others house but now... We don't talk at all, last time i saw him was when we went to hospital to visit my grandma. He's just gotten really stuck up. Then again none of my dads family are particularly keen on us or our mother.

Like I said earlier, my cousins and I aren't that close. I have lots of them (my dad had six brothers and sisters...and each have at least three kids and I have four cousins on my mom's side) and I rarely talk to any of them. My one cousin is in a popular band in Michigan and whenever I'm home I catch his shows. Other than that, if I run into my other cousins it's a "Hey, how are ya?" but not much more than that. I wish I was closer with them....cuz as kids we'd always hang out. It sucks too because it's not even OUR faults that we don't hang out anymore. Especially on my mother's side...because once my mom died, it became the "blame game" everyone was blaming everyone else for what happened...

I visit my one aunt and uncle when I'm home...they are great people...and through them I've sort of reconnected with one of my cousins who's a lot like me. It's tough though. Most of my cousins have moved away or are involved in drugs, or just too stuck up...takes all kinds to make a family, I suppose.
