I found this pattern, after a lot of searching. It is made seperately to the tam, so you can add it onto any hat you like! I started with a longer chain (37ch) cos I like a wider brim. It's great, I've made several this week. Make 2 of the following brims,(sew together later on) No need to add an insert. I used dk yarn, and a size 4.5mm hook (size 7) row 1: Ch 31, turn. Sc in second ch from hook and sc in each ch across. (30ch) row 2: Ch 2, turn (counts as first hdc in this row only). Skip first sc, do hdc in each sc across and in the beg ch stitch (30hdc). Tip - I poke the hook into the left hand corner, (right near the edge) which makes the sloping edge neater. row 3: Ch 2, turn. Skip first hdc, sc decrease over next two hdc. Hdc in next 25 hdc, sc decrease over next st and ch of beg ch 2. row 4: Ch 2, turn. Skip first hdc, sc decrease over next two hdc. Hdc in next 23 hdc, sc decrease over next st and second ch of beg ch 2. row 5: Ch 2, turn. Skip first hdc, sc decrease over next two hdc. Hdc in next 21 hdc, sc decrease over nex st and second ch of beg ch 2. You get the idea now, to save typing it all out... do each row as you have been doing, but: Row 6 do 19 hdc's; Row 7 do 17 hdc's; Row 8 do 15 hdc's. Done! Enjoy
yeah, that's kinda what I do, but I make it up as I go along. I've always done brims using 2 yarns together. I guess that saves making 2. Thanks for posting this. I'll have a go at it when I've got time. xx
