With rising gas prices breaking records, and gas companys bringing 6 figure PROFITS why hasn't someone in america thought hey what can we do as a people to fix this? The things people in america complain about are minute and miniscule, people are well quoted for saying we need to stop global warming, we got bigger problems that need fixing now like america's education system which is in the shit, the rising gas prices, the manufacture and sell of illegal fire arms and drugs, the prohibition against marijuana. we have huge problems that need fixing now, fuck global warkming we can worry bout that later.

People aren't interested enough to actually involve themselves. Apathy is a national disease.

As far as gas prices, they are partially a result of the dollar tanking. Oil is a global commodity and there's little the government can do to mitigate it and any fines or tariffs would be passed on to the consumer OR the resource would just be pulled from the market and sold in the many other countries whose currency is stronger making it a tad more affordable and who are willing to pay whatever.

The government has done nothing useful in mitigating out "addiction to oil" as oh so cleverly coined in most of Chimp's State of the Union Address. The purpose of those speeches was simply to fool us into thinking something was being done- to create the illusion that working peoples' issues actually register with those who help waste tax money in Washington.

Likewise, all this rhetoric about making big oil accountable for price gouging is campaign nonsense intended only to make people think the candidates will do something. Don't be fooled... as long as people are willing to pay the price and their cushy House and Senate jobs aren't threatened, we could pay $25 per gallon for all they care. Big oil is a major contributor to campaigns and a significant lobby in Washington.. and our military is in Iraq on their behalf, NOT to open up the flow of oil but to assure that the supply is CONTROLLED in order to work with OPEC to keep the market from being flooded with it and driving the price DOWN. Saddam Hussein's big sin wasn't playing WMD shell games with UN inspectors but threatening to break sanctions and unleash a flood of petroleum on the market in order to raise revenue to rebuild his country after the first Iraq war. That he was in fact an evil, murderous dictator made it easy for western powers to demonize him and cultivate support for the current debacle.

It's also not in our government's best interest to have more efficient cars on the road because that would cut the amount of tax revenue collected per gallon of gasoline bought. It would seem to be in their best interests to keep a cap on price but since the economy is built around its consumption a certain level of consumption is assured and they couldn't care less that people are having to take a second job just to keep their car fueled. Any time a candidate talks about their concern for the working man and woman all they really care about is getting a vote. Nothing is going to change as long as people don't hold those who are supposed to represent them accountable for breaking their promise to working people and representing big business.

We can spend our energy being enraged with government and big business but it's as much our fault for willingly allowing our standard of living to get sold to the high bidder.

its hard to start something like that I have tried to organize simple school wide protest and still I have not succeeded (mostly cause Im not one of the popular kids every one knows me but they are afraid of me) its sad that we live in a society that is always waiting for someone else to start it

P.S. Thanx Stinkfoot that is really probably the best explaination I've ever heard in my life
