You know, they are polluting the environment, spewing all that carbon monoxide.

It dosnt matter how much carbon dioxide anything makes, plants suck it up and spew out more oxygen.

And then we chop up the plants and use them to make paper, which we burn making carbon monoxide. Vicious circle, isn't it?

new growth trees are better for the environment than old growth.

Plants are everywhere. Take a glance outside and you will see a plant, you probably wont see a sheet of paper.

Probably, I dunno but they are not as beautiful, as aesthetically pleasing nor as ecologically diverse. And I don't think that they are being planted at the same rate as those that we cut down.

they could be. old growth trees may be more aesthetically pleasing, but they don't absorb CO2 anymore. practicality is practicality.

It would be equally practical to produce less people, thus less CO2.

FWIW Cate,(and I know this is off topic at this point)

I wasn't meaning to come off "holier than tho" earlier about being veg.
I actually think if you were craving something ,your body needed it and it is probably healthier to allow yourself.
I also know many who call themselves "veg" but still eat fish and chicken.

FYI... old growth are just as important for the environment whether they absorb CO2 or not. It is not like that is the only function of trees. What about all the other plants and animals that are dependent on old growth forests? Eh?
