Just wondering if there was any way to tighten the roots as they have yet to lock, and as for my ends, they havn't really locked either. I don't do much to my dreads other than wash them with tea tree oil every so often and I twist and twirl them for fun alot too. Any advice, or just let em be?
u can rub the ends or roll em but dont gotta as for the roots the roots will always have a lil undreaded space if they didnt youd have 2 problems 1 getting youir fingers under em to clean your scalp and 2 they'd stick straight up all over
i do a lot of root rubbing to help my roots lock up as my hair is naturally not very nappy. i don't usually get my fingers under the dreads to wash, i just rub around them and such, 'cause i like to keep mine locked up as close to the scalp as possible. just an ocd thing i think lol! i got in the habit of root rubbing while watching movies (i watch a dvd nearly every night... total film buff lol!), and now i can't not... only time it's a problem is when i'm eating buttered popcorn and i forget and i get it in my dreads. oops lol!
yea i like to have as little undreaded hair as possible. espesialy cuz it gives the dreads alittle volume if you know what i mean instead of lying straight down.
root rubbing? So you rub your fingers around the root just to get the hair moving and that helps it lock?
you place the dread between your longest finger(dunno what its called) and the other long finger. then rubb around in a circle. the best time to do this is with dry clean hair. theres an explanation of the different methods at dreadheadhq.
fuck all methods on dreadheadhq ya dont gotta do a thing dreads will follow theyre own course and turn out ther way they wanna dreadheadhq is all about sellin u crapo u dont nreed and givin u methods that are basicly a waste of time
i have to dissagree. some people (inclouding me) like that their dreads have more ''volume'', u know instead of lying straight down. and for this clockwise rubbing is great. and about dreadheadhq, i must say i realy like thair shampoo. ive tried both the knotty one and dhhq one and dhhq soap realy leaves your dreads with a clean fresh feeling. pluss i can deffinatly feel my dreads tighten for each wash with it. yea ofc. their after making money as every other company in this world, that doesnt mean EVERYTHING they sell is useless. and every tip is a cruel lie. so far the tips on the site has worked well for me except what has to do with wax. some like to leave it be and get a rougher more natural look. while others prefer to work on their dreads to get the result they want. imo. none of the options are wrong.
oh really? then plesse please please explain why clockwise rubbing is different from counter clockwise? theyre site specificly says clockwise..not counterclockwise but neither makes any difference at all half the crap is myths found on 10000 other sites sites like perfectdreadlocks that tell you to goop your hair up with honey and toothpaste and peanutbutter then they tell u to controll whisps of hair by drilling holes throuygyh your dreads with hooks and needles weakening the dreads .. 85% of theyre advice is bogus
i know nothing about all the other sites you speak of. but most of the tips on hq seems to make sence to a certain degree, to me atleast. and theres no loco tips like using honey etc. the thing about clockwise rubbing... hmmm well all i know is what i have read, that clockwise is the most natural direction for the hair or something. but that i dont know if its true or not, it says that the most important thing is that you keep rubbing in the same direction. look i respect that you and others find that leaving the hair alone results in better loking or more natural loking dreadlocks. but not everyone wants dreads with loops, different sized dreads and lose hair. some want evenly sized smoth dreads with rounded tips and as little loose hair as possible. and I belive that there are tecniques to get what imo is good looking dreads faster than a year or two. not to mention that with ''neater'' dreads, that looks more well maintained to the avarege man, getting a job is easier. but im not going to argue with you anymore. we have have different oppinions, and both are going to stick to them, aspesially a dreaded veteran. ill keep doing what im doing, using dread spray (pretty much a saltwater extract i think) ,locka peppa, the tool for loose hair, rubberbands, and see how it ends, and post pictures when their muture, hopefully about half a year or so. then if they dont look good you win
use the lock peppa and all you'll hasve is a flacky itchy mess use the loose hair tool and you'll have weak dreads that brealk off easily dread spray? beyttter check up on whats in that i thionk but if its just salt watrer how much are u paying for a pennies worth of salt and free water? 6-8 dollars for what u got in your own kitchen already?
Not that I am advocating anything, I'm just gonna keep quietly neutral, just for reference: The reason DreadHeadHQ, and various other people, recommend a clockwise rubbing of roots is that the hair on most (but not all, best to check I guess...) people's heads grows in a clockwise whirl. It's not to dissimilar to your fingerprints, they (for most people again) go in a spiral, all in the same direction. If you rub anti-clockwise you're essentially going against the grain and trying to force hair coming out of follicles angled in one direction to back on themselves and put strain on both them and your scalp as a whole. So I suppose you should check if you have an anti-clockwise whirl if you're gonna do it, kind of hard if you've already started to knot up! Perhaps ask an eagle eyed parent or spouse with a good memory...
guess i never thoiught bout that since never felt the need to rub the roots (since just tyon a knot in the end will cause dreading from the knot towards the roots) i wonder if thats why when i ball all mine up ontop of my head i wrap em clockwise generaly ..nah think thats just cause im right handed are u sure about that? no come on that makes no sence a spiral has to have a center if the sporal is the drown of the head then any single dread except the 1 at very top would be rubbing against the frain onb 1 side and with it on top hairs grow straight oiut where are u getting this? the only way that would make sence is if your head was a number of spirals exactly equal to the number of dreads u sectioned arbitrarily dreads are far more chaotic hairs dont go in order they dance around eachother in chaotic unordered paterns they lock not out of forced order but random coincidence\ cris crossing without order whatsoever rubbing in 1 direction or another or both dont matter movement matyters just shaking your head or being in the wind does just as much as hours wasted rubbin think about this you can dread while in a coma ya think these sites woiuld exist to seel ya a ton of crap if the info they provided was just do nothing? no they gotta sell you on a complicated process then tell ya theyree products make it simple...only way toi get ya to ever go back to that site and buyt that shit 20 steps tro locks but hey buy this kit and its only 10...)(forget the fact that theres only 1 really needed..the last 1 patience)
this is what i suggest, take the root, separate it in half, then take the end of your dread and poke it through that opening and pull the dread through. Do that untill you feel it tight. As for the ends...take the hair that is not creating a round tip and sew it into the dread with a felting needle. I think dreads are beautiful on their own, but if you want to get them tight and round, that is how to do it. best of luck to you.
your right a few of my front dreads started with wisps that wouldnt dread or get sucked into dreads (think from pushin dreads back fingers cumbed em accidently) but had these whispy things that always blew in my eyes and annoyed me, so id tie a lil knot in the end then as u said flip it thru a hole in the roots ..id only do it hmm 4-5 times thru randomly created holes just to get the hairs toi connect then let em go and they dreaded nicely from there
I sort of thought about that as well, but it still kind of makes sense. First of all, yes, I'm pretty sure hair grows like that, for instance, see this picture I found randomly via google image search for a demonstration, or just go and hassle a non dreaded friend with fairly short hair. Anyway, what you say about each dread having to be it's own spiral did kind of bother me when I thought about this, but, if you think of the base of each dread as a circle placed on top of this large 'spiral' shape, and rub it in in a circular motion to create its own mini spiral, more of the hairs will be going with the natural 'grain' of the large spiral if you rub with the grain than against it. I guess that some will still be going against the grain, which will put a strain on some of your follicles. However, if you've got long hair of any kind for instance or even just wear a hat your hair is going to be pulling in some kind of other direction to the way in the which it points out of the scalp. So I guess they can take some strain, whether or not scalp rubbing for the purpose of root tightening is a good idea or not I don't know, I couldn't say, this is just my two cents.
soaring eagle ive been using locka peppa for a long time, and ive never gotten dandruff from it, or any bad sideffects. its very effective for creating knots. only bad side effect ive gotten is from overuse. concerning the spray, well to be honest ive never tried swiming in saltwater with dreads, so i cant realy tell wether its more or less effective. but you might have a point on that one. ill check the ingridients later. and about the crocheting hook, maybe your right, its not such a good idea to use it around the middle of the dreads. but mostly you use it at the roots anyway.
lol that picture doesnt show a spiral it shows hair growing straight downwards as gravity would opull it but hes got a rather pronounced cowlick right on the crown which is hair that tends to stand out at an awkward anglke ive never used the lock peppa but others who doid complained of flakiness...not dandruff flakes of rosin the lock peppa is flakes...crap u spray in to stick to the hairs and make haires stick to it and eachother.. examin it closely you will see tiny iregularly shaped flakes..the hairs get caught in these flakes, in the irregular edges, lock peppa basicly the main ingredient is that stuff they use on violin bows..i have no idea what it really is made of but it seems alot like a tree sap consistency.. but very brittle so breaks up into a powdery flaky sticky substance if u want nice clean drewads that last ya dont want to be puytting stuff in em that gets stuck in em right? especialy unnescacary stuff nothing is necasary salt will do just as much good....and guess what...disolves in water...which means rinces clean away..and doesnt leave flakes throughout the dread remember im not talking dandruff..or flaky scalp..these are flakes of rosin trapped inside the dreads that were put there purposly..all because u believed a lie the pplk who used lock peopppa all reported it seemed to help make knots but the knots were gone very shortly after and they had to keep reaplying because it doesnt help knot..it justy helps 1 hair stick to another till they unstick knots take movement..time..and patience not $ and products
Don't do that root flipping!! Honestly, it will really weaken the dreads. Trust me. Ive read really sad stories about it. Peace
i believe you, but i've only heard good things. If you do it too tight it can make it weak, but you should not do it that tight... My friend's dreads are 6 years old, and he does that...never had a problem. BUT nomatter what we say it is all up to the person whos hair it is
