Same here. And really, Katie knows a lot about classic rock. She never fails to amaze me with her trivial knowledge. When I was her age, all I really knew was The Beatles.
Really? I didn't know that either. But if you think about it, the Velvets never really used much, if any, technical equipment in their music. I am sure Lou Reed and co. used pedals and whatnot for distortion purposes, but not a whole lot more than that. You don't really need a lot of fancy equipment to create feedback and distortion. That's an interesting fact, though.
Well, according to Sterling Morrison, during the recording of White Light/White Heat, "we had so much electronic junk with us in the studio-all these fuzzers and compressors."
Ah, ok. Interesting. That was still fairly primative for its time, though. Fuzz boxes and compressors had been around since the late 50's. I know what you mean, though. And that's interesting if it did (the loss of this equipment, that is) have an affect on their following album.
Yeah, you're right. By 1967 there was definitely more advanced recording equipment. Yeah, I think that's really interesting. Heh, I guess that goes to show how broke the band was. They couldn't afford to replace their fuzz boxes for the recording of their album!?!
Beatles did some good stuff, but don't let any music teachers try and persuade you that they're geniuses and that everything they did was perfect. Some of their stuff is bloody awful.
Wow! A 13 year old girl that listens to the VU. Cool. When i was 13 i was listening to the beatles and crappy music and never even heard of the VU
The Deluxe Edition of the VU&Nico on cd has a peelable banana too. Very cool edition, with an essay, rare photos and two cd's instead of one.
I thought about purchasing that, but I read that there wasn't enough there to spend all the extra money.
You need to look in Loaded, which is probably my favorite VU album. "Oh, Sweet Nothing" reminds of me of a southern rock song. God the Allman Brothers Band would make that song sound so awesome.
Loaded is by far, in my opinion, their worst album. Although I do really like "Oh! Sweet Nothin'" and a few of the other songs, you should definitely purchase White Light/White Heat first. It's one of my all-time favorite albums.
I always thought it was "Now bleed for me," but then when I looked up the lyrics, multiple sources said it was "Now plead for me." "Bleed" makes the most sense to me, though.
