i've got a table with the tarot readers in the reader's grove at the local pagan pride day event tomorrow. right now i'm getting ready and i'm sooooo tense! anybody else get nervous before any kind of public appearance/speaking/performance/demonstration?
yeah and what really helps me is changing my view from "how will I look... how will i sound.... what if i seem nervous...etc" to a truly informational view and forget about me.
i've been playing the piano in public appearences with classic music a lot of times. don't forget that your performance is no more than some way of talking to the audience. and don't forget that this kind of talking is something that is individually your very own way. so, by performing, you will need to find, somewhere out there in the air (or someplace else), the connection to the audience. it will be the moment you touch them with your performance and time stands still as they just have to listen to you and aren't able to do or think anything else, at least as long as you're connected to them. so you hold the key and make the time for them, make it stop or make it move in any speed you would like to have. as long as there is the connection, you can't do anything wrong, and you won't be aware of the fear of performing anymore. but you can only talk to them in that way when you're thinking only of that talking (which ist the things you wan't to teach or say to them, in music: only the notes you're playing) and not about the way you look upon stage or the things people will think about you. when you do it like this, you cannot fail. reading some of your posts, i think you're a very strong and impressive character anyway, so why don't you just rely on yourself? you have something to say, so just tell it to them. all the best luck :sunglasse
i'm the same way, and it's such a horrible feeling to have anxiety.. especially on the drive there or something, makes me want to throw up. but, in way of encouragement, i'll say that the moment the presentation/recital, etc, gets started, i generally become very secure and settled, and it always "turns out there was nothing to worry about." not that that helps the night before.. good luck! sounds like a fun event.
