I posted in the TV forum too, but no one ever goes in there and I'm SO EXCITED right now that I have to share it with everyone. David Attenborough's final series, "Life in Cold Blood," is OUT! Only on Amazon UK and it's stupid expensive, but so what? David Attenorough's nature docs are the best thing that's ever happened in the whole world. Oh God, I'm so happy. I can't believe I have to wait ten days. ARGH!
I have to say that I am a big fan of nature programs in general, but I have got a soft spot for his voice and the amazing camera-work in most of his shows...I don't have a TV though and have been out of the popular entertainment loop for quit a while now. What's the new show about? Sounds like reptiles, which would be awesome. I'm also extremely jealous of his travelling lifestyle.
David Attenborough is king! I even watched a documentary about him Thats a documentary about a guy who makes documentaries *geek* Oh well, he's a pioneer in awesomness ^_^
I read his autobiography. I didn't know there was a doc about him, though! What's it called? Groovy, I'm not sure. I need to see it as big and beautiful as possible, so I wouldn't want to download it. (Besides, my boyfriend's rich! Who cares? lol) Yay Piaf, I'm so psyched you like him too! Red, I totally agree. Nature docs are great, but HIS nature docs are a whole step above everything else I've ever seen. They're just fucking amazing. And I would kill my own mother to be able to have his life. Yes, the new one is about reptiles and amphibians. His other series, in order from awesomest to slightly less awesome, are: - Life of Mammals (good for realizing that platypi are creepy little fuckers) - Life in the Undergrowth (bugs! Oh hey, how do you feel about watching slugs fuck?) - Private Life of Plants (more interesting than it sounds; also available only from Amazon UK) - Life of Birds (birds frighten me but this is still pretty awesome) - Life on Earth (old, but amazing) - Life in the Freezer (I haven't actually seen this one yet, because honestly I'm kinda penguin'd out these days) And that's aside from Planet Earth and Blue Planet, both of which he narrates and both of which are mind-blowingly sweet.
Ok, so I've seen Life on Earth, Private Life of Plants and bits of Life in the Freezer. I have to say Blue Planet was one of the best shows I've ever fucking seen. If I had a DVD player, TV and some money, that would be top of my list. While I was younger, his shows(these docs) used to be shown weekly on BBC so I've probably even seen more than I know the name to.
You're in for a treat Molly, I watched it when it was on over here (few weeks back) and it was brilliant. I won't spoil all of it, but there's one bit with these skinks that mate for life, and they were the ultimate stoner lizard, they spent 90% of their lives just chilling and when their mate got killed, they'd stay beside it for several weeks preening it.
It certainly is, Hotwater. Finnaz, I'm so jealous that you've already seen it! GAH, it's gonna take like two weeks to get here! I can't wait that long! We already own Blue Planet but we just bought a hi-def TV and now we're going to re-buy Blue Planet and Planet Earth in BluRay. We love them that much.
The man's brilliant, I seem to remember he won (or came 2nd) on a big poll-y thing of the greatest national treasures.
This might be what you're remembering, Finnaz: An opinion poll of 4,900 Britons conducted by Reader's Digest in 2006 showed Attenborough to be the most trusted celebrity in Britain.[14] In a list compiled by the magazine New Statesman in 2006, he was voted tenth in the list of "Heroes of our time". [That's a quote from his Wikipedia entry.] Red, speaking of envy, here's another quote from his entry: It is often suggested that David Attenborough's 50-year career at the BBC making natural history documentaries and travelling extensively throughout the world has probably made him the most travelled person on Earth ever. That's a ludicrous thing to try to quantify (and they spelled "traveled" wrong), but still. And Emelia, it was called "Life on Air," the same name as his autobiography (which is also great). Hello, Netflix queue!
I think it was a thing with The Culture Show on TV over here, over several weeks, it came down between him, Morrissey and Paul Mccartney I think. I would trust Attenborough over them though any day.
Yeah, it wouldn't surprised me if he had more miles under his belt than just about anybody else. I wonder is there any country he hasn't been to. Maybe some of the new nations in Europe, I dunno. They spelt travelled the British way, not the wrong way. Just different than you guys and your colors and favors and the likes..
I dislike Britain and America equally. But I do like some British and American people. I spell the British way because that's the way they taught me in school. I have a mad crush on one American girl though and no Brits.
