Hi! I really want to get dreadlocks, but my mom says that if I really want them, I'm going to have to take care of them and pay for them myself. So I was just wondering two things: 1. How much does it cost to get them professionally done, or to by the materials to do them yourself? 2. How do you care for them after you have them?
your in luck sweet sista coz dreadlocks dont cost a thing. getting them done by a proffesional is overated in my opinion. You can get a friend to help you section your hair, like you would do if you were braiding all of your hair, tie them with some wool and get a friend to help you back comb using a flea comb, or any other hard metal comb, then palm roll. Or you could go completly natual and just leave your hair to do its business. Dont use wax, despite what others may tell you, it will make your dreads sticky, dirty and eventually mouldy, keep your hair clean it helps them to lock up. all you really need to maintain locks is to keep em clean add some beads here and there to help them along and a bit of palm rolling also when washing use a residue free soap. you will find lots of great advice on how to get started n stuff, and i suggest that you read the dreadlock do's and dont's it will be mot helpful.
your welcome! you will find this place heaven for your dreads. Im glad you found us before you found knotty boy or someone like that
yea absolutely avoid buying anything..except a residue free soap like dr bronners or something dreads are notr made they happen you can backcomb if you want to controll the early process but dont do anything else tell mom that doing them proffgessionaly..or trying to force a neat look early on ids the biggest mistake u can ever make keepin em clean tho is critical and will give u great dreads
i think she means doing like a hair wrap type thing, which u can do the lenth of the dread or just the last 1/4 inch or so works lot like a bead and just holds the section together and lets it dread
