Well i just got cable and power back yesterday.. 10 days of really primitive living.. My family was fourtunate, having minimal damage to our homes in the area.. However, not everyone was so lucky.. I have several friends who lost thier entire house.. Or had extensive flood damage.. The death toll is well over 30, most not accounted for in the paper as of yet.. We rode the storm out in our house about 8 miles inland (Pensacola).. It was one hell of a night.. We had hurricane force winds for a good 6-7 hours.. 3 of those hours were 120-130 mph winds, 160-170 gusts.. Alot more extreme then i could ever imagine.. The front door kept making sounds as if it was about to swing wide open.. The next morning their was complete havoc through out the city.. Pine trees snapped in half.. Oak trees completely uprooted.. Every other house had a tree laying on their roof (tree removal estimates, 5,000 min.) The biggest factor of damage was the incredible storm surge.. 15-16 foot pushing over the barrier islands.. Reported 50-60 foot waves rolling over trees, houses, even destroying our East and westboud 1-10 innerstate bridge.. I am sure yall have seen some pictures.. It is sad sight.. Our beaches ruined.. Anyways, i gotta go to work.. Just telling yall I am alive.. for anyone who cares =D
Well, Im defiantly glad you survived. Im sure it was very crazy... not a time I'd like to be living in Florida... but it's defiantly good that your family not little or very minimal damage... If I was ever gonna build a house in FL... I'd build one of those dome houses... I saw a program about them on tv... they look pretty cool, arent all that expensive and are supposted to be able to withstand a category 5 hurricane. Anyways, did you take any pictures of the area around you? If so, you should post them.
Glad to hear that you made it thru Ivan, but what about Jeanne is that hurricane headed towards you too? Anyways I feel bad for the people who werent so lucky.
my mother is hoping her house got knocked flat or into the neighbor's yard. it seems the land is worth more money without the house on it and her hurricane & FEMA money would bring more than the sale of the house. stupid properties manager bitches.
I actually do have a few pictures, I will post a thread with them all when I find sometime to crop and upload them all.. I have a few nice shots of some of the local mariana's, that is one of a hell sight.. http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/news/guides/hurricane/aerial1.shtml Check that link out for a dozen or so of some nice aerial photo's from my local news station..
hey, big bong, is there any way you can swing by my mom's house in pensacola and take pictures of it for me? she's desperate.
