I'm in the Anniston area... I don't drink or use drugs, but I'm open minded and would enjoy a good drum circle. I've met lots of hippies at the hot springs I travel to. We all get along great. Nice folks that are non-judgmental and fun to hang out with... Wouldn't mind having such friends closer to home.

    Yeah, I'm in Chilton County.

I've been thinking along the same lines. In fact there's another thread around here about it. My current thinking is to start small & easy. Maybe just a monthly get together & say hello & see how many show up kind of thing at the Peach Park (I-65 exit #205). Easy to find & get to for folks coming from around here, B'ham & Montgomery, etc.

    Peace,

How about Sunday, April 20th.... I mean 4/20 or 420... plus two days before Earth Day. What could be better? Maybe 2:00 in the afternoon?

Sure wish we could get more folks in on this discussion.

    Peace,

That would great but what if there's only three of us there, lol. I know a handful of folks that might be willing, but I don't know if I could hold 'em to that. Hmm.

Well, if there are only three, then we'll each have a couple new friends & then we'll try again the next month for more folks, and after a couple months if it's still only 2 or 3 showing up then we'll know there's not much interest.... or something like that. I've already talked to a couple local folks who aren't Hipforums members & they'll be there. Over the next few days I'm going to send out a bunch of PMs to everyone who has posted in any of the many Alabama threads & who've been signed in within the last 3 months. Between those in B'ham & Montgomery & T'town & Anniston & etc there's several Hipforums members & maybe they'll bring a few friends.

It is important to note that get togethers of members have been tried before and as far as I know they've been universally failures, but I don't know every thing around here. But what the hell, it's worth a try.

Why not make it some other day Poor_Old_Dad? A lot of people might have plans for 4/20. ;) Why not later this month, or in May?
    Just an idea. :)

Sure, I just threw 4/20 out there to try to get the old ball rolling.

Same with suggesting the Peach Park, it's easy to get to, easy to find, and is just about in the center of the state. To be fair, I live only 15 miles from the Park. But hey, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm still going to be there in case anyone I sent a PM to shows up without coming by here first.

I figure Sunday early afternoon (2:00) is a good compromise, what does everyone else think?

How about May 4th or May 18th? May 11th is Mother's Day, so I don't think that'll work. Or maybe the third Sunday of the month for the next 3 or 4 months? That'd be 4/20; 5/18; 6/22; 7/20....

    Peace,

4/20 sounds like a possibility. Currently I'd be between trips... Maybe...

Thanks for at least trying to get us together.

I wish I had known during the taladega gathering. I met quite a few Anniston area locals who came to hang, but I didn't get phone numbers or anything.

    regards,

Anyone from around Roanoke/Wedowee/Ranburne area? I live just over the line in Georgia.

Poor_Old_Dad, I drive by Peach Park EVERYDAY, Monday through Friday (I drive a truck for a living). I frequent Tobacco Plus on the left of 31 before you get into Clanton, to pick up "supplies and stuff."

I'd be down for a get together down there. Cool place - I get off every time I cross the bridge down from Mitchell Dam on AL 22. I'd love to get down to the bottom and take some photos of the place. Maybe one day!

Peach Park is exit 205 on I-65 - that'd be going south from B'ham area. Get off, take a left over the bridge, and you can't miss it. There are signs, plus this huge peach (sculpture?) where lots of folks get their photos taken.

Anyone ever been to Confederate Park (an exit or two down from Peach Park)? I've seen the signs, but have never been. What is there?

That's 2.5 hours away from me. I'd be willing to come as long as there would be a few folks there. I don't know if anyone showed up on the 20th. It didn't seem like enough people were interested.
