I'm having an attempted martini brunch so this will be pretty essential... Vodka or gin and what kind? Is Sapphire still considered good? Also, why is "beverage" considered an alternative lifestyle on this forum?
I always liked "Stoli" myself. If you want to go with something impressive ,and pricey,There is a ,trendy,"luxury " vodka called "Pravda". It is supposedly "custom made",the "smoothest"."finest" vodka ever made.It is produced in South Poland(in the carpathian mountains,no less), sounds impressive. I just received a mailing and coupon from the company and although I am not a frequent vodka drinker,I plan on trying it.They picture an attractive"vodka tasting kit" in their brochure. Check out your local liquer store and take a look at this product. It seems like the perfect Vodka to impress a group of friends for brunch! As for gin, grab a bottle of Tanqueray,a british gin, that gin lovers always seem to love ,in my experience. Oh and I would go with both (vodka and gin)and give your guests a choice! From what I have seen, most prefer vodka ,but I'm sure that can vary.
vodka hands down! the best vodka i ever had, was 17 years ago when i was in finland. those finns can make some damn fine vodka! the pols and russians they don't know shit about vodka! gin is just way too smooth for me.
Yeah, Grey Goose is pretty much the best...good advice here, it seems like everyone feels vodka (or both!) is the way to go. I will say I prefer vodka to most gin martinis, unless the barkeep happens to be pouring the ultra-rare Bulldog gin -- I too like it smooth. Then again I haven't had Tanqueray in a while, it would interesting to offer a comparison for some of my gin-guzzling friends.
vodka is nasty, and a vodka martini is not a martini. it is a vodka martini. a martini is gin and vermouth, and thats that still, i like vodka in a vodka martini FAR better than virtually any other way (bloody maries are good on occasion, though) vodka to me is nasty, and adding vermouth is one of the few ways to make it drinkable. certainly no shots. gin on the otherhand is great. my favorite is a hendrick's martini.....hendrick's gin with vermouth rather than any other gin. hendricks is a little pricier, but very, very good and refreshing to boot. unlike most gins, the highlight is not simply the flavor of juniper but juniper with the addition of cucumber. a hendricks martini is a standard martini, but garnished with cucumber slices rather than a martini olive or onion or something. probably one of my all time favorite cocktails, but i try to limit how often i buy stuff to make them since i just get trashed off of them but keep on drinking. whether you use vodka or gin, vermouth makes it far more delicious and drinkable, and its easy to go way overboard without realizing it. but yeah.......martinis are awesome, but for the most part i will use gin and only gin.
I was about to come in here and kick some ass, but since what needed to be said has already been said, I can put the steel-toed boots back in the closet. It's like people that set their absinthe on fire...
absinthe with no flame? how crude! since you put your steel-toed boots away... i'll keep mine in the closet too. i won't ass kick you, if you won't ass me. peace... ok?
Yay, Nesta! Blackcat, I can only hope that you're joking. If not, it is a pity. Cheers to Hendricks Martinis. I like mine with a cuke.
Colin thats one thing we will always disagree on bro XD I LOVE vodka and dont care for Gin at all. Not that I wouldnt drink it, I just wouldnt buy it XD
