I'll have to put the Beatles down as well. They were my very first favorite "rock band." From there, it just snowballed... Baby you can drive my car! Or maybe not. ;>
Well... Led Zeppelin turned me on to smoking the grass Yes turned made me appreciate the complexity of music The Allman Brothers Band especially 'Mountain Jam' and 'Elizabeth Reed'.
Widespread Panic and the Grateful Dead: My introduction to jam bands. there was no turning back from there!
flowerchild23-91, I must agree with you.... The Beatles have always been in my life (my mom loves them, and I do too) But the Doors...man....it was the Doors first, then my life changed when James Marshall Hendrix came into my life....I cannot even begin to put into words.....but yall know what Im talking about.......
i would have to say that the beatles changed my life the first song i ever heard was come together and since then it just hasnt stopped the beatles are the band that redefined everything for me and i wish they were still preforming! my country went to war and all i got was expensive gasoline!
The Beatles: Grew up with, influenced by, + still a fan Music, Fashion , Protest and more \/ < Peace + Love ~ Save the Planet>
haha I feel bad, everyone here has good classic bands; for me, though, not so much. The first band I really had a thing for was Guster, back when Goldfly was around. Other than them, though, Dallas Green, Ween and Bright Eyes really spread me out. And embarrassingly (but not really, they're awesome) Fear Before the March of Flames. I'm just now getting into oldie-but-goodie stuff; I'm really liking the Doors, Led, Skynard and Floyd, and some even older (for me) ones like the Byrds, Mamas and Papas and Frampton. What songs I know by the Beatles are way too cheery for my taste, but my buddy tells me to check out Revolver, which I'm trying for now
So much that it hurts: Led Zeppelin Modest Mouse Phish I go through lots of "favorite band" phases but these are the bands that have and will stick with me for the rest of my life. Half of who I am is thanks to these three. Hopefully there will be more to add to this list in years to come. (Neil Young may soon join ranks, with the way things are going...he makes me want to burst somtimes)
I grew up listening to Neil Young. I love his music and his lyrics really touch me. Same thing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Doors
For me was Rush, those canadians were inside my head all day when I was a little kid at school, nobody could understand why I was to into it, Rush blowed my head since day one, the bass guitar sound, the amazing drum fills, I was amazed by the fact that only 3 guys were making all that great and complex music. And besides that, Rush was like a bridge for me to know and really apreciate other bands like yes and King Crimson, When I saw for the first time a concert of Yes I was 19, the guy next to me was freaked out by the fact that I knew all the songs, all the arrangements, and of course, i was talking to a lot of people outside the concert, about many great band, old bands, great bands, he said " it is not possible, how can you know all that", well.. When you´re into it, you´re into it.
the one that really changed my perspective on music was miles davis From the moment I first heard the album, Kind of Blue, I knew that I wanted to play music for the rest of my life the band that changed my life period was Sublime The music makes me feel so good and I have so many memories that were made when listening to them
