Just once, I'd like to see a celebrity who refuses to apologize.

It's a sick, sick cycle. Mr. Celebrity makes a joke that offends a religion or special interest group. Said group gets offended and demands an apology, Mr. Celebrity apologizes.

Doesn't anyone realize this is an act of submission? Anyone who does this is essentially saying, "Your free speech is more valuable than mine". Everyone does it too.

It's not an individual's responsibility to accomodate every splinter group humanity has to offer. Besides, if you can't stand behind your statements, who the fuck are you?

    Agreed.

George Carlin never apologizes... that I can honestly remember.

I don't think Russell Crowe apologized when hit that bell hop with a telephone. In fact, I was thinking he tried to justify it.

Glenn Hoddle (England football coach of the 90s) refused to apologise for saying that disability is a punishment from God.

Fucked up view, but he had his view and stood by it.

    Yes! thank you!

Recently I read an article about a kid who was given a zero for using religious symbols in his art school class. It was the opinion of his art teacher and his principle that this could offend other students and impede on their rights.
It's the opinion of the child, his parents, and their attorney that since the school allows the social studies teacher to teach about hindu practices and buddhism (what is it with social studies teachers and asian shit? my favorite history teacher was the same way) along with demonic and pagan symbols that suppressing his choice of what to draw is much more impeding.
Even being an agnostic atheist that hates Christianity, I completely agree.

I don't think you can be an agnostic and an atheist at the same time, Duck.

I'm remembering a shirt that Mathew McConaughey wore for a while...it said:

"WHAT PART OF NAKED BONGO DRUMMING DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?"

    I love that man.

This I can wholeheartedly agree with. The apologies only enable the continued whining and empowers PC thugs.

    Here's my apology:
Yeah I'm sorry... I'm sorry some people can't take a fucking JOKE! I'm sorry that some folks have the need to hide behind minority status because they don't have the self confidence to let a harmless bit of humor roll off- and I'm REALLY sorry that the folks who make it their business to take offense at the slightest fucking thing FORCE people to excessively censor and nurture a real hatred that wouldn't otherwise be there- holding it in until the pressure bursts out in a way far less appropriate than an innocent fucking joke.

I'm sure the self appointed PC manners police are smug knowing what they're contributing to society.

I imagine for the celebrities in question there is immense pressure from most, if not everyone, in their nearest circle, so it would probably be a tough call. of course, the easiest way out is always easier. who cares about integrity when you can have money instead?

We could debate this, or we could talk about Mathew McConaughey's abs.

yes, but they're apologizing for offending people.. not for making the joke.. they'll still go ahead and make thier jokes, but it's not thier intention to offend people..

I'd like him to rub my body up and down on them like I was pants and he was a washing lady from the 1920s.

She IS a bitch. We should poop in her mailbox.

I think we're in a semantics argument here. I agree: like any theory, I am open to believing it as soon as I see some proof. Until then I don't really give it any more thought than the Bigfoot theory.

Agnosticism is a sort of general ideology, which is basically summed up with: *shrug* 'who knows?'.
Atheism is pertaining specifically to religion, and means that you:
    1) do not believe any theistic religions got it right.
    and/or
    2) there is no deity.
