WAYCROSS, GA (AP) -- Police say a group of third-graders plotted to attack their teacher, bringing a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward.

The plot by as many as nine boys and girls at Center Elementary School in south Georgia was a serious threat, Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner said Tuesday.
Two of the students were arrested on juvenile charges Tuesday and a third arrest was expected. District Attorney Rick Currie said other students told investigators they didn't take the plot seriously or insisted they had decided not to participate.
"Some of the kids said, 'We thought they were just kidding,'" Currie said. "Another child was supposed to bring a toy pistol, and he told a detective he didn't bring it because he thought he would get in trouble."

So if you were one of the parents to a kid involved how would you handle it?

See this is why I refused to major in early childhood education. Evil little fuckers!

Not sure what I would do if it was my child.

    i love you, too.

my girls are really gentle unless crossed. i know my kids. but if threatened or harmed, they strike out like a feral animal. therefor there must be something freaky with the teacher.

"The children, ages 8 to 10, were apparently mad at the teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, Tanner said."

but to think that these kids didn't say anything to their parents
Oo I'd be so upset if my oldest who is turning 10 in May was involved in anything like that.. I mean she is so smart, how could these kids think that was a good idea
if the teacher was especially mean why not tell a parent?

well, if that's all, then i'd be furious. but i'd also be furious with the system if they charged my child as an adult. a kid does not think the way most adults to. they're living in a freaky dream world.

They won't charge them as adults. They can't. Also the article said she taught the special needs kids....they will get off without a hitch. It's the way our system works. If the police hadn't been called all of this would've been swept under the rug.

As I don't have any kids yet, I can also look at this a little more impersonally than those of you who are parents already.

I would be disappointed in my relationship with my children if they didn't come and speak to me about it and I would seriously question my ability as a parent.

Yeah but I don't see how a hyper active kid is any different really than any other kid. Most kids that are diagnosed aren't really ADHD. Plus they put any behavior problem kid in those classes.

it's a sad fact that the kids in my daughter's class have more influence on her than i'd prefer. it's just how it is. yeah, we spend nearly every available moment hanging out, but those are her friends.

it's not just hyperactivity. we had a buncha kids on my block who were put on ritalin. and MAN when that medicine would wear off, the entire block looked like a zombie feeding frenzy. a group of my sister's friends, who were ALL ritalin dosed, except for one girl who's just a koolaid drinker, stomped the shit out of my sister one day. like a pack of animals. the girls held her down while the boys stomped her. out of nowhere. they were her friends. they've never done anything like that before or since. sometimes there's just a freaky perfect storm of WTF that happens. no, i don't think those kids should be charged.

I don't either. I meant that usually there is no diciplinary action after three I think. I just think it's strange. After that they just get sent to the counselor's office.

True, peer pressure holds amazing power over all of us, especially kids.

As regards for charging them, are you taking the fucking piss? They aren't even 10 years old for God's sake. Locking them up in any kind of institution is only going to ensure a lifetime of disorder. The counsellor sounds like a good idea, with the parents present also.

    What KC said.

Also, if my kids were involved in something like that, I would be shocked as hell because I am at their school 3 times a day, I touch base with both teachers every day and I know every kid's name in both their classes. I am too involved to be out of that kind of loop.

Next year when they are both at school full time, I will be able to volunteer at the school.

I must be coming off wrong somehow. I do not believe they should be charged. I do believe they should be suspended for a couple of days. The kids and the teacher need a break from each other obviously.

No, I understand you and I agree with you. The seriousness of this must be demonstrated to the kids somehow.
