I fail to see how Japan figures in todays events. I fail to see how the US's position in Iraq excuses the behavior of the Chinese Government.
Perhaps China's Position on Taiwan and Tibet excuses the behaviour of the US in Iraq? None of the China Hands here will touch the subject of Taiwan.
Thanks again for turning this into an informative exchange. Democracy is one of the most fundamental human rights. You must read this document because it establishes the International code of Human Rights, signed in 1948. Perhaps your government also censors this information (I don't think China has signed this document). http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html You'll notice that two of the most basic human rights are Freedom of Speech, which is exactly what the students were exercising when they were murdered in cold blood by the Chinese government. Also listed is Freedom of Religion which is exactly what is being denied to the Tibetan people as well as other religious groups in China including the Falun Gong, whose members have been imprisoned and tortured by your government. They also list Freedom from Fear, yet it seems people of your parents generation are AFRAID to speak out because they have seen what happens like what happened to Zhao Ziyang. That sends a CHILL to all who would oppose the violent regime running China. Yes, I will mention Human Rights over and over in relation to China's government because your government is DENYING you your Human Rights by censoring the Internet, by forbidding Tibetans to protest and not telling you WHY the Tibetans are protesting, lying about how they shoot to kill the protesters, how they continue to TORTURE Chinese dissendents and citizens. Your government does an EXCELLENT job of HIDING the TRUTH from Chinese people. It's incumbent upon Chinese people to LEARN THE TRUTH and PROTEST and even have a NEW REVOLUTION if the government doesn't change soon. Yes, you can make small changes but that doesn't change the MINDSET of the Chinese leadership who are some of the most CORRUPT people on the planet! As far as Iraq goes, my signature below says it all (and also shows that I have freedom of religion, freedom to criticize religion too!). It also indicates my belief that the US elections are RIGGED...
Chinese should not kill other Chinese, the history has been stained by strife'''' no more. The only thing that separates China and Taiwan is the thinking thats all.... and It is a TRIVIAL MATTER don't you agree? not really worth killing over???? Hong Kong did it peacefully, so will Taiwan, when they go broke they will turn to MaMa.
american doesnt do much better than china in Human rights. think of the poor black ppl cant even take bus with white ppl. why martin luther king got assisnated? chinese have freedom of speech. yes, now you come to china, learn the chinese launguage, you can say whatever you want. its legal as stated in the constitution. the tibetans have the most freedom of religion in the world. the goverment finance everything just in order for them to practice their religion. about Falun gong, thats hardly a religion, do you know that many falun gong ppl approached my 70 year old grandmother and got ass kicked? they said falun gong is better than doctor, when you are sick, dont go to doctor. just practice falun gong. how could that be a religion.? its your freedom to mention human rights . its my freedom to mention american has a poor human rights track record , not so much better than china. ever heard of Iraq? SEEMS IRAQ PPL NOT DESERVE ANY HUMAN RIGHT? human right is internationally, i dont think america has any right to judge others about that. come on, im in china, and the truth verified by videos and pics are all over the newspaper and media. all kinds of opinions are allowed. pro-beijing or anti-beijing, all allowed. why dont you learn to read chinese charater, read the chinese newspaper and watch chinese tv before you comment. i have to disagree. the most corrupt ppl on the planet is americans and british invading iraq, and the contractors and politician take advantage of the aftermath of katrina disaster. finally you have the nerve to mention Iraq, you americans dont give any human right to the iraq ppl, you bombed their lands, killed their civilians, robbed their oils, raped their women. how dare you criticize china's human right?
ha, skip, you pretty much run out of argument. what is it with all about 1989? history, you know. whats about the history of america? 1953: Korea is permanently partitioned across the DMV (55,000 USA soldiers, one million south Koreans, one million Chinese, two million North Koreans have died) 1964-73: USA-Vietnam war (3 million) The US killed three million people in Vietnam, but the vast majority were either regulars of north vietnam or vietcongs. I don't count those as victims of atrocity. When American presidents decided to bomb the rice fields in North Vietnam, knowing that they would only kill women and children, those are counted as genocide. 1972: Richard Nixon orders carpet bombing of civilian areas in North Vietnam during the Christmas holidays and the examples of how american kill civilian ppl in other countries are enormous. yes, if it doesnt matter, then really americans should pack up and return to europe. millions of north america indian ppl were genocided. are you serious? censorship is everywhere in every country. not much difference, yes, when tv and newspaper dont cover it, we read it on the internet too. you certainly do not know the chinese launguage and have no idea of whats going on in china. if you can read chinese charater, i suggest you go to www.tianya.cn, it will change your close mind. i bet my life on that. have you ever wondered why this site is accessible in china? same as bbc. cnn. and almost all kinds of foreign media. but chinese websites are blocked in western countries too. if some foreign media is blocked in china thats because chinse websites was banned in foreign country first. you cant be this naive. any thing btw two country is mutual.
When Bush first got into office before 911 happened, a U.S. spy plane was forced down after colliding and killing a Chinese pilot in an interceptor, and the spy plane was held for a week. until some kind of negotiation was reached on it's return. Then Bush and Co. gave president Hu a gift of his own private jet and the chinese found the plane was bugged from nose to tail Beijing is still laughing about that one. Nothing but the usual hostilities from the U.S.If you want to boycott the olympics none can stop you, but in truth, you can't even afford a gallon of gas let alone a trip to China to see anything.for the last 8 years the world has been protesting and boycotting the U.S. The media told you little about that.
I remember that plane being forced down on to Hainan Island. So did China expect that that gifted airplane would not be bugged? Only Americans are that naieve. Seems that people have been protesting about America 4-ever. Since the Panamana canal was dug out in the old days.
Thanks concor1 and recklessrick thanks for your contribution skip is a very kind people but it's conspicuous for us that many America friends fail to see China is changing, because their goverment amplified some facts or history and hide some truthes just like our goverment skipped 1989 maybe they skipped more or at least weaken more I find the communication becomes more and more important which makes us know each other well, especially makes more and more Americans know China well, as many CHinese can read English but seldom American can learn Chinese. I had also wanted to recomend www.tianya.cn to them, I think at least our friend can see some pics and the most important point is, the communication can let us, both CHinese and Americans, realize who are the true governers and who are their mouthpieces? why they do these, why they cheating us? whose interest they want to protect and enlarge? I find these answers should be different between China and America due to the history reason but also we have something in common. I have many things want to post but I should be busy for some paper works and experiment recently, dear Chinese friends pls ask more friends of you to post more and argue more. I think we will find the only truth and get some usefull conclusions which should be different with those "enlightened" by the goverments. By the way pls aware that don't make any conclusion without certain support materials and be kind to the people who have different opinion with you, at most times their arguments initiate from kind thinking
Thank you Chinese folk for your input. I've been struggling with the idea that, while we like to think we have more freedom than you, maybe we don't, especially now, with how it's been for the past seven years since Bush has been in office. If I'm gonna take shots at your country, you're justified in taking shots at mine. Iraq is a huge violation of human rights. Our rampant corporate corruption is as well. I personally am against both, and I do what I can to fight it, but it still happens, and it's absurd that our country has allowed this shit to happen, but it does. It's embarrassing. However, we Americans are no more responsible as citizens for what our government does than you are responsible for what your government does, unless you're part of it...
An individual can only be responsible if they behave in as an individual in a responsible manner, and the only peaceful recourse the citizens of the US have is to boycott all things related to these Olympic games. Our government may not call for a boycott, but the public as a group of individuals can by their individual actions. Don't buy their pins, don't tune in to their broadcasts. It may not seem like much, but it is our voice.
I couldn't afford to be present at the Olympics even if I wanted to. Besides, it's basically commercialism anyway. I respect the athletes and the spirit of competition, but the unfortunate reality is that a majority of those with the means of attending are the corporate thugs that have gotten us in this mess to begin with, and these are the people who will be representing us, pretty scary.
They aren't making the majority of their money off people that can attend, they are making money through advertising to those that watch the televised event. I have little respect for most athletes today, so many have been found to be using drugs to win a medal. And we tend to make excuses for it.
Boycotting the Olympics doesn't really do shit, all it does is ruin the chances for the athletes who have trained for years for the chance to be there.
What it does is send a message to a country that infringes on human rights that we won't buy their advertising. As to the athletes, there are other venues where they can prove their prowess. Do they actually want to be part of a venue that espouses the rights of totalitarian government over that of the rights of the individual?
Or are they afraid the effect of the steroids they have taken will wear off before they can compete elsewhere?
