Hey everyone, When I came into the mental health thread I noticed some negetivity which is obviously expected when people are going threw rough times so I thought I could try to send out some positive vibes by making this thread were people can give tips to eachother on maintaining a balance and keeping your mind body and soul healthy. So feel free to post some suggestions Please keep this thread a positive respectful place I hope this thread helps!! Peace<3
I guess I will start keeping intouch with nature is somthing that will keep you positive. Nature teaches us alot of things so spending more time outside, studying and watching everyday miracles is a great way to keep your mind off what is buggin you and helps you realize the obstacles all living creatures go threw to survive Peace<3
Nature actually works wonders for me also,I feel a connection to wonder and beauty like I find nowhere else.Defocusing by reading things I find intresting and want to know about ie Native American,Self-help,Mysteries etc.etc. helps also alot,I get intrested in the books instead of my problems.Doing anything creative seems to work wonders too.
Exercise! Get plenty exercise, a little each day works wonders, it will release neurotransmitters in your brain and make you feel better
Sleep! Get into a good sleep routine, get up even if you have nothing to do, and go find something to do. It will help put your body into a good rhythm
Sunshine! Kind of related to sleep I guess, but when you get up, go outside and get some daylight/sunshine. The sun on your skin helps produce vitamins in the body (vitamin D?) and is proven to lift your mood, as well as getting a nice tan
yeh i am into being positive although i really don't work on being positive. its more of a roundabout thing. yeh nature is my thing too. never want to get to far away from the earth mother because she is very nurturing and restorative. and exercise is good. you don't have to get all fanatical about it either. eating well. i would never give advice although i didn't find much help from mental health professionals for my problems. its like we live in a totally screwed up culture and mostly that was about controlling my symptoms so i could fit into that culture which they thought made me okay but it didn't. so i got away from that. i learned it was okay to be yourself even if you are different which i am. but everyone has to find their own way of doing things. i like to think the universe has provided all the things i need to heal. i've had alot of different experiences and evolved more with each one. always searching for truth and healing .now i can let go more. but i've been through some very painful experiences and don't want to make light of a persons pain.
I agree with you bobbee everyone is diffrent and these suggestions may not work for everyone because everyone has diffrent problems but this is here to help some people not all I wish I could help everyone but ofcourse I cant but I would if I could P.s I love everyones suggestions !!! Keep up the beautiful posts !!
Simply getting away from the roaring cars, the police sirens, the gaggle of ducks, erm I mean people. Get out of the suburban hell for a day. Go to the Sheerness, where you can look out toward Essex. Where you get mugged by seagulls, all hungry for your chips. Go some place like Rochester. They are perhaps the best people in Britain. They run at a slower pace. They are friendly. That is until you cross the bridge to Strood. I find talking helps. Or listening to music.
great thread, it should be stickied even if you take meds, they won't do it all by themselves. when i was in an outpatient hospital programme, they used to average about seven suicides a year then they introduced a positive group session, since they started it, no suicides even if you felt like shit and said 'got out of bed and had a shower" so a least once a day, tell yourself something that is good in your life and i not talking about stuff that isn't true to you if your having a crap day, acknowledge it, even if you get up for a shower, that's a step in the right direction other stuff that works for me may not work for others if you can, get a pet meds don't work without a little effort from you build a bigger support network recognise your symptoms and do something about it remember feelings are tempory, they go away set short term goals say 3 a week eg book docs appointment, go food shopping etc pick days to do it exercise boring but true getting out of the house edited to say find some fun in your day ie do domething for you often, in mental angst we sometimes forget
thanks bella, but most of what i wrote i learnt at my outpatient programme and i have to say that at the time i hated it i think this is a great thread because it reminds us all that life can be great
