So I'm really thinking about buying a bus and just vegabonding, doing the whole road magic thing.
There's a lot of fake hippies here in Mass. and New England in general is just so self-absorbed. I want to head west, especially to the rainforest Pac NW.

Has anyone "opted out" like this and quit a good job and vegabonded?
I want to make sure I'm escaping for the right reasons.. I guess I feel guilty about not being tough enough to do the daily grind.

I have a chemical engineering degree and know some computer programming, so I hope I could find a job if I needed to.

Anyone just out there doing day labor for cash, going from town to town?

Hahaha! Im from Boston too, well Plymouth/Brockton to be exact. I roam around a lot. Im in NE Washington state right now and I feel you when it comes to fakes in Mass. If you want adventure then I say pack up and go. There is always day labor or if you have a skill or trade you can barter here and there for sure. Lots to see and do out here. If it were me back on the east coast id be gone in an instant. When I left Michigan last year I was working as a plumber at $20-$60 an hour till the economy went to shit so I packed up and left. I really dont care about money anymore and it feels good not to have that monkey on my back. There are some folks here that have property on a mountain that will rent space cheap. Hit me up if you come this way and Ill hook you up with them. The people are great and I dont miss the east coast at all tho I do miss Michigan a little. Ann Arbor was a great city. Good luck bro. Peace, Tokin.

i spent a few years doing that, and plan on it again this summer. my advice would be to go without the van. with a blanket and a tarp you can sleep anywhere, and without a vehicle you wont need as much money. plus, hitchhiking is trully a magical expirience. you'll be thrown into all kinds of unique expiriences.

i dont know how it works but on the road you always get what you need. the first time is a huge leap of faith, but it works.

btw, you shouldnt feel guilty about letting go of a lifestyle you dont want to be living. this is your life, your planet, and your time here is brief. always follow your heart, and take care of yourself.

I too will hit the road come summer. I really need to do this, i need to find a reason why i shouldnt kill myself, a reason why life is worth living. Just look deep into yourself, and ask your heart, the part of your heart free of the programmed expectations you have aquired in your life. Get a clear view of your true intention.

Are you willing to be strong? Go through any hardship along the road? Survive? Dependent on the mercy of the irrationality and uncertainties of life?

If you truely desire something, you the inhibitory factors that come with it will submit to the power of your will propelling your intent and desire forward

May I suggest a more enticing road job? Making healthy food at good music festivals! I did it for years. The family loves you for it, you get a chance to meet awsome people, catch some shows, pay for your way, and have some fun.
Grilled veggie quesadillas, sprouts and hummus pita pockets, wraps, soups, fair trade organic coffee at 7 am....think "other than nasty grilled cheese and beer". Be wholesome, and watch miracles unfold!

Do it man. Dont let your world consume you. I simplified my life 2 years ago (gave up a family business, cut out most friends, cut out anything and everything that drove me nutz) and I've nevr been happier. I dont travel much because I already live in a truly wonderful place. Screw the thousandaires!
