Please read this piece about the situation in the Green Zone, supposedly the most secure place in Iraq - right?

The US is slightly PINNED DOWN at the moment...

Will the Helicopter Cavalry come to save the day?

Uh, this is exactly what was happening that last day in Vietnam...

Kinda hard to spin this in a positive light...like Bush tried to do today.

Now they can't even go outside in the GREEN ZONE!

Yup, we are really WINNING THIS WAR! Basra will soon fall...

The end of the war is finally in sight!!! YIPPIE!

WASHINGTON — The State Department has instructed all personnel at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad not to leave reinforced structures due to incoming insurgent rocket fire that has killed two American government workers this week.

In a memo sent Thursday to embassy staff and obtained by The Associated Press, the department says employees are required to wear helmets, body armor and other protective gear if they must venture outside and strongly advises them to sleep in blast-resistant locations instead of the less secure trailers that most occupy.

"Due to the continuing threat of indirect fire in the International Zone, all personnel are advised to remain under hard cover at all times," it says. "Personnel should only move outside of hard cover for essential reasons."

"Essential outdoor movements should be sharply limited in duration," the memo says, adding that personal protective equipment "is mandatory for all outside movements."

"We strongly recommend personnel do not sleep in their trailers," it goes on to say, offering space inside the Saddam Hussein-era palace that is the embassy's temporary home as well as room at an as-yet uncompleted new embassy compound and a limited supply of cots.

In a separate public notice to American citizens in Iraq, the embassy said the restrictions would remain in place "until further notice."

The staff memo says all personnel under the authority of the chief of mission "are required to wear body armor, helmet and protective eyewear any time they are outside of building structures in the International Zone. In addition, chief of mission personnel in the International Zone have been advised to remain inside of hardened structures at all times, except for mission essential movements."

The memo and warden notice were sent after a second American citizen was killed by a rocket attack in the Green Zone on Thursday. A U.S. citizen military contractor died of his wounds on Monday after being severely injured with four others in an attack.

One explosion from a rocket launched by suspected Shiite militiamen on Thursday ignited a fire in the central area of the zone that sent a massive column of thick, black smoke drifting over the Tigris River.

U.S. military officials said that among the weapons used in recent attacks are 107mm rockets made in Iran. One official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information, said they have included rockets stamped with 2007 Iranian manufacture dates.

Military and diplomatic officials would not say what had been hit inside the Green Zone. A U.S. military statement said one civilian was killed and 14 wounded "in the vicinity" of the protected district.

The first wave of rockets this week came on Easter Sunday. The Green Zone _ and areas nearby _ have barely had a breather since.

On Sunday, at least 12 Iraqis were killed that day outside the Green Zone, apparently by salvos that went astray.

I am confused by your enthusiasm in the recent uprising. How do you think this will bring an end to the war and not just increase the bloodshed and prolong the US occupation? If I saw just 1 percent of the enthusiasm in the decrease in violence seen in the past few months as I've seen in the increase in violence, I would be shocked.

It should be obvious to anyone with even a chimp's brain that the only way the US is going to leave Iraq and the war to end (for America) is for the US to be DEFEATED, and scurry home with its tail between its legs, JUST LIKE IN VIETNAM.

It's just one more OBVIOUS lesson the US has not learned from History.

So it repeats itself yet again.

Yes, the US is defeated once again, its economy in tatters, its standing in the world trashed, the middle east going to IGNITE in a fire storm.

And yes, you can blame it ALL on the neocons, Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Republicans, oil companies, etc.

Go ahead and vote for McWar and see where THAT leads us...

I hope you're wearing lead underwear!

Whenever I envision how this war will end, it usually ends with "fuck, I don't know, the US never should have gone in to begin with". Of course, even knowing it was a bad decision BEFORE the invasion, that doesn't do us any good NOW. I don't yet see a defeat or withdraw from Iraq. The most difficult enemy in Iraq has been suppressed, and even though we will likely see a escalation in offenses, I don't think it will lead to nationwide chaos. We are at a point now where the Iraqi people have had enough, and that is the one ingredient that will lead to stabilizing Iraq. I believe that the goal of the insurgency has evolved. Where it's primary mission used to be to expel the coalition forces, we are now seeing more of a struggle for power. My friends on the ground in Iraq have given me a pretty good sense of what is going on, and call me an optimist if you will, but I still have hope for a successful outcome.

I don't want to end this post with the impression that I'm trying to paint a rosy picture in Iraq, but I have not yet given up.

Success in Iraq is America's Oil Companies continuing RAPE of Iraq, the Americanization of Iraq's economy (business FIRST AND FOREMOST - fuck the Iraqi people!).

On that level Iraq has been a success since DAY ONE. That is why Bush & Cheney don't see anything other than a ROSY picture. Their financial fortunes are secure even if America & Iraq's aren't!

I believe Iraq has the potential to be a Muslim country with an elected government where its people have freedom of speech, religion, and education, and sits atop the worlds third largest oil reserves which means it has a natural resource that should allow its economy to thrive. "Success" in my measure, is when the Iraq government holds enough strength to support itself, and the coalition forces can withdraw from the country.

Cheney and Rumsfeld and McCain have already said this is going to be a 100 year war. It will end when World War III ends. This recent incident certainly isn't going to end the war. What does the US government care about the loss of American lives? Technically, the US lost this war years ago. But that doesn't matter to the people in control. They're not losing -- just the American and Iraqi people are losing. To the ones in control, things couldn't be better in Iraq. They want this violence because, to them, it justifies remaining in Iraq, and it justifies the massive and permanent military bases being built there. As long as the US remains in Iraq, lots and lots of money is being made by the select few who never planned on ever leaving.

And don't be foolish enough as to think Obama is going to end the war, either. The media isn't pushing him like they are because they like his smile. I mean, let's be real here.

Lots of disinformation going on about this too. I've heard that there were attacks today taking place north in the green zone and the US says they were instigated by terrorists only the British news reports have confirmed that their troops were in fact involved in a hostile mission involving the violence in the area.

The journalists can't even find accurate information until days afterward events when they can actually get the full story.

Obama has been against the war from the START and he's said he will withdrawl troops on his first day in office.

Are you talking about American soldiers? How do these soldiers fit into the "majority of Americans are stupid" category? You know a lot of soldiers are Republicans. A lot of soldiers are also Chrisitans. The way you talk about stupid Americans, nutjob Christians, worthless Republicunts, and warmongers, I am surprised that you would be worried about "one more drop" of their blood.

    Not all Americans are stupid.

Only the Republican Neo-Conservative Christian assholes like wackyiraqi, that still believe that this war is winnable.

This Iraq War is the Vietnam War of this generation. Deja vu.

History repeats itself all over again, and the stupid Republican Neo-Conservative Christian asshole, who failed to learn from history, still has his head stuck inside his ass.

So how is the life of an American worth any more than that of an Iraqi? How does where a person lives make them any more or less human beings?

See, this is the sort of twisted mentality that justifies these wars in the first place. Until we start looking at each other as HUMANS, we are only going to see more death and more suffering.

I find it hard to believe that a person who is truly against war can say something such as what you said above. I really find that to be a sad statement, but indicative of the "us" vs. "them" mentality.

At least the Americans killed in Iraq chose to go over there. The Iraqi people didn't choose to have their country invaded and their loved ones killed.

This isn't a war, it's an occupation. Even if we do pull our troops from Iraq, it's already been established that we'll have a permanent military presence there. We have more military bases around the world than any other country. Don't be fooled, we'll invade Iran next. There'll be some kind of "attack" on American soil and the populace will stand by their fearless leader and beat the drums of war. It doesn't really matter who gets the presidency, this country's fate has already been sealed. It's like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I don't care for an American life over a foreign life just because they're my fellow countryman. I was born here, that's it. I had no control over it. I feel no love nor take any pride towards arbitrary lines drawn in the dirt.

Depends on what kind of American we're talking about. The average flag waving, yellow ribbon, patriot USA USA #1 American, or a poor, widowed, Iraqi mother whose teenage daughter is being raped and tortured by the American superheros while she's forced to watch at gunpoint?

Teach a man to fish and all he catches are red herrings.

FedUpAmerica, your logic is terrible; I suggest you change your mind. HUMAN BEINGS ARE DYING. Not Americans, not Iraqis: PEOPLE, with destroyed families that leads way orphaned children, which leads way to a confusing upbringing which can lead way to even more crime into the future.

Stop and think of what you are really saying here. Get your priorities straight.

Snap out of it. You're playing the, "Who's more important game", and you lose sight of what truly matters.

You're better than this kind of thinking.
