Hi all, about 98% of christians throughout the world have been so brainwashed into believing certain things that they refuse to even consider any other possibilities. It's called Tunnel Vision. For example - they believe Adam and Eve were the very first human-beings on earth. BS! Anthropologists have unearthed traces of human existence dating back 10's of thousands of years before Adam and Eve were supposed to have lived. But Christian won't hear this "It's a lie of Satan" they will say. Another example is Noah's ark. According to the Holy scriptures the 'whole face of the world was covered with by flood' and that the only survivors in the entire world were Noah and his family and the animals that they took on the ark before the flood. BS! At the time these things were written that region of the world, the middle east and northern Africa, was the 'world'. They had no idea that other continents existed. How could they? They didn't know of the Americas, Eastern Asia, Australia and so on. Nobody in the world will convince me that Noah took Kangaroos, Koalas, Emus, the platypus, wombats, etc. on the ark (I'm aussie by the way). And what about all the animals that are native only to North America? But try and tell this to christians, they'd probably say you have a demon. Regards: Malfunc
I like your percent. You just made that up. The vast majority of Christians do not believe in a literal genesis creation. Ever since they won the battle but lost the war in the Scopes trial of 1925, conservative Christians have waged an intensive war against evolution. Despite repeated court decisions insisting that evolution must be taught in high school classes, the conservative Christians have managed to keep one form or another of "creationism" alive and well as an alternative in the minds of many Americans -- including 62 percent of African-American Christians, 52 percent of mainline Protestants, 42 percent of Catholics and 26 percent of Jews. (Seventy-eight percent of Conservative Christians reject evolution) http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0211-25.htm BAM! http://www.religioustolerance.org/ev_publi.htm Beliefs among conservative Christians: In 1999-NOV, Focus on the Family, a Fundamentalist Christian agency, concluded a poll of their web site visitors concerning their beliefs about creation and evolution. Results were: God created the universe, but I don't know when: 46% God created the universe thousands of years ago: 43% God created the universe billions of years ago: 10% Life came into being and evolved on its own: 1% I don't have a clue: 0.4% 6 [Author's note: The poll is not particularly well designed; it mixes apples and oranges. The first three options concern when the world came into existence and assumes that God created it. The fourth response concerns evolution of life on earth. A participant in the poll might well believe that God created the world billions of years ago and that life evolved on its own. They would believe in two options, but could mark only one.] The participants in the poll are self-selected from among the visitors to the Focus web site. They probably are mainly Fundamentalist or other Evangelical Christian believers. Beliefs elsewhere in the world: Belief in creation science seems to be largely a U.S. phenomenon among countries the West. A British survey of 103 Roman Catholic priests, Anglican bishops and Protestant ministers/pastors showed that: 97% do not believe the world was created in six days. 80% do not believe in the existence of Adam and Eve. BAM! These results show that it is hardly 98% of Christians who have your so called Tunnel vision. EDIT: In going back and reading your post you only claim that 98% of Christians are brainwahsed into what they believe. How would you qualify such a statement. http://home.snu.edu/~HCULBERT/ages.htm I would argue that this chart makes that attempt. If we argue that younger people are the ones coerced into belief, then it seems that 83% are. But in my view the age ranges are too large to make an accurate assumption. (a 15 year old is very different from a 30 year old). also, this doesn't take into account people who eventually leave Christianity. So in short, you made a claim that is likely false and quite unprovable. You have five demons. I can see them. I will pray you have a short time in purgatory or that your punishment in Hell will be lessened (I hope that everyone realises that last part was a jest)
Hm. Well, if this "tunnel vision" is primarily popular in north america compared to other places, then I still feel confident about bashing americans. People from ALL walks of life share this "tunnel vision" ... only some of them are christian. Everyone has some degree of cynicism towards other belief structures or philosophies.. it's a side-effect of being human. But, yeah. Consumer america, full of folks who act based purely on convenience, pisses me off. </rant>
Hah, you too have a tunnel vision, Malfunc. I am not christian either, I do not believe in religion. You do not even fully understand the meaning of the story of Adam and Eve or the story of the flood, you are taking things literally which makes you just as bad as christians who take them literally.
You make a good point Hryhorii, though it is getting worse over here now. I know a couple of fundies, (and one who had been brainwashed but now realises the truth) . It's nowhere near 98% though. Most christians are progressive, liberal and sensible. It's just the right wing ones shout a lot louder.
Hi Bl4ck3n3D, I tend to be rather cynical about nearly all scriptures from 'the Holy Bible', but it has been scientifically proven through archeology that a great flood did occur in a considerably large area of the middle east around the 3000 BC. Hmmm... Malfunc
i agree, these people cant understand that there's no evidence or proof that theres a god, a jesus or any other of the religous bullshit. ahh well you need to leave them be, untill they effect you personally its their loss. closemindedness is an inllness and should be treated as such.
The vocals make easy targets. I do not care much for them myself. They give all Christians a bad name. There are bad apples in every bunch that make easy targets.
