It's because we're dirty and smelly, and we're not good enough to use the same doors that the "normal" people use. My sister has that sign on her door... I think it's pretty funny.
I made a sign for my door that says "War mongers please use cellar door," with an attow pointing down. Lol.
its a way they discriminated against people that were diffrent ... its not funny if you actully think about it ..
when ever i see that sign i actually go through that door just to show the people who put it there that i'm not ashamed of what i am!
i agree that it is pretty discriminatory its kinda saying your not good enough and we dont except you for who you are and we dont want to see you if you must be here its not a nice sign at all my country went to war and all i got was expensive gasoline!
yeah its sort of like.. back when segregation was like at its peek.. there were 'white' water fountains and 'colored' water fountains.. I understand the concept but honestly, do you think the water fountains (or in this case front doors and side doors) really notice and difference between white and black people (or hippies and conforming pricks? )
I usually see it on places that don't have a side door. I thought it meant "go away", don't come in at all.
I've never seen that but of course, I'm a youngin' for one and also I live in Canada so things tend to be a tad different in some ways. When I first saw this post I thought it was just kind of like one of those gag t-shirt/ poster/ bedroom wall kind of things. I guess if the intentions of the person is to hurt someone or make hippies feels small than I am absolutely against it. But if one of my friends had it on their door, just poking some friendly fun I think I'd laugh and ask them if i counted as a hippie lol. totally depends on the context, sounds kinda like a club door though like hippies enter at the side door, all the conformies enter at the front - how boring and sad for the conformers hehe guess everything is just a matter of perspective
For the most part, Canadian (and more so in Ontario) hippie culture has been a different scene from down there...you'd likely see different satirical signs. That said, I have seen it before.
Definitely agree with ya MR, we got the whole US drain including conscription runaways and the crackdown in the 70s. Everythings a bit of the same but with the twist isnt it? I miss the "dead dread head" days hear in k-w back when sammy's garage and the firehouse were still kickin'. oi things change so much so fast don't they?
Haha I don't find it offensive or anything, but the funny thing is that I first saw it at a local hippie store called Obadiah's. I effin love that place.
