I thought i'd make a thread where people could say what was the single worst thing they did for their dreads.

Mine was that i trimmed a few hairs from the bang to clean it up for my girlfriend... Now that its growing back they are just sticking out even worse than they were before.

rubber bands. just a personal friend experience. bands were kept in too long, cought the wash and she had moldy centers. causing her to cut them, might not happen often though, just peronal experience.

backcoming my hair, never used wax or shit, but backcoming my hair was the biggest mistakes. I had only stop coming my hair for 3 months and there was like 5-6 dreads at the back of my head, well semidreaded. regret it a lot actually

Hmm.. waiting too long to rip them apart. It hurts a lot more the longer you wait! lol.

Camping the next week after getting them and not thinking how attracted dreads would be to velcro. I ended up mega fuzzy and my head was already quite sore from all the backcombing and tugging the previous week. I'm considerably more velcro conscious nowadays.

Is it bad to use felting needles?
I had it done to the front part of my head and, yes that dreads feels different, but cant see what damage it would do if you had them all done?

I personally think felting needles are bad to use. The damage occurs because the needle contains barbs at the end that weaken the hair shaft. This could eventually weaken/thin out dreads and cause split ends.

ahh ya reminded me of 1

leanning out of a car at a fest parked in a field of burdock
insteantly 20 pounds of byrdock burrs snagged all 150 or so dreads into 1 huge mass of spiky burrs and dreasds
took hours of ripping to get the dreads apart and 3 days of picking to get all thye burrs out
    not fun
    but funny

i think its clear though that if we attached a poll with just 2 options
wax and everything else combined wax would still be the number 1 dread mistake by a landslide

Poor sectioning. Thank goodness I haven't used Wax or anything, but still...

I have a bit of a problem with gaps between hair and just an all around "sectioned" appearance, which looks horrible imo. Oh, well, maybe it will somehow work itsef out, at least its not full of wax. Thank goodness I have found this nice comminity before damage was done!
