I just watched Micheal Moore's Sicko... I don't think I've ever been this disappointed with America before.
Ya pretty discraceful indeed. The sad thing is, most people have to see a movie before they can become aware of such a topic.
Moore's argument is basically that we need socialized government healthcare. Of course he doesn't address any of the existing problems about why healthcare is so expensive in the first place. But this is to be expected with a propagandist like Moore.
Its nice to read, on a hippy website, that folks understand that Michael Moore = Xena Warrior Princess.
The biggest thing about watching those movies is to remember he represents one point of view...to be able to make a valid argument and have peoples respect, you have to be able to see a situation from all point of views.
I think it's pretty obvious without a Michael Moore movie that America's healthcare system is fucked..
i dont think i laughed once in that movie really.. but thats besides the point... im glad i have free health care.. but to tell the truth our healthcare in canada sucks. i dont have a family doctor cause of the shortage in ontario and i remember i broke my wrist and waited 7 hours for a doctor to get to the hospital and i was the only one in the emergency room
Yeah, and many Canadians come here for major surgeries. Nobody wants to wait 6 months to have a brain tumor removed. Not that the American health care system is particularly good... but it's better than any socialized health care in any of the big Western nations. With socialized health care in the US, we'll only see things go from bad to worse.
I get what you mean. Many patients, not enough stuff and not nearly enough time is the main problem with socialized health care. However, it's mainly just a problem when it comes to booking normal check-ups, dentist appointments, and basic procedures and even then, it's not a constant problem, not even close. If you have a brain tumour, you will not be put on a mile long waiting list. But then, what I'm saying is based on a lot smaller scale country than the US..
