Hello, I'm a newbie to the forums. Also, I'm a newbie to OTFC. What I've read about them suggests that, by buccal absorption, only about 25% of the actual dose will become bioavailable. What I'm looking for is some help with possibly improving upon efficiency of this. Doing some research about the subject, I read that Cephalon came out with an effervescent OTFC tablet, called Fentora, which helps the absorption of the drug through the buccal mucosa. I know nothing about the subject; can anyone break down what Cephalon is using for said effervescence? (Is it as easy as breaking off a piece of an alka seltzer? ) Any thoughts are appreciated!
Okay, so, upon doing some more research, I was able to find out that the inactive ingredients in the Fentora effervescent tablets are very similar to those in Alka Seltzer: baking soda and citric acid. Now, that prompts another question; I hope I'm able to find someone with a bit of a chemistry background. I'm sure that that both the Actiq and Fentora versons of OTFC have some sort of binding agent .. for all I know, it could be the flavoring. I'm fairly certain it'd be easy to pulverize a bit of the Actiq and a generic effervescent tablet, and then press them back into tablet form. Here's where the chemistry part comes in .. does anyone think or know if that would improve absorption like the standard Fentora tablets do?
If you take the fentora correctly ( buccally in between the top gum and cheek). The bioavialbility of fentora is 54% while actiq is only 24%. Having taken both actiq1600mcg and fentora 800mcg, IMO The fentora is much more potent. Both are relativly the same prices.:cheers2:
