I'm pretty sure he was poking fun at people who only really know the BM standards like Burzum, mayhem and Darkthrone... maybe even Emperor?

Get really high and/or drunk and listen to Xasthur's "Telepathic With the Deceased" with all the lights off.

    Now.

    Go.

Indeed. Luckily the guy's been banned.

In any case all the bands he mentioned are pretty well-known, not quite obscure and easy to find at most metal distros.

What, are you like only listening to Norwegian bands? Germany, France and Canada is where the present and future of black metal lies.

In any case, I'm already glad you didn't mention Gorgoroth - if there's one band I can't understand why they deserve all the praise they're getting, it's them.

*listen to LUNAR AURORA, all of you, god dammit*

^ haa, didnt even realize that all of those bands are Norwegian lol

But yeah, completley agree with you about Gorgoroth, so over-rated <at one point the guy from Gorgoroth actually said "its not about the music, it's about the message"

To be honest I actualy really disslike 80% of Black metal- I like it for different reasons other people do.

Now might be a good time to ask- does anyone else find that black metal is actually really happy? It makes me feel happy when I listen to it.
Even stuff like Burzum which tries to be dark ambient at times I feel the music is quite uplifting.

I will check out Luna Aurora.

Oh and one final thing- I disslike most modern black metal bands because their drums are just way to loud and overpowering- its become like a competition to see who can double kick the bass drum the fastest which really annoys me.

lol yeah, some of his ambient tracks are kinda like that. Like "Die Liebe Nerpus'/Nerþus's Love", "Hermodr a Helferd/Hermodr on a Journey to Hel", & "Når himmelen klarner/When the Sky Clears"

    No problem man...

And yeah King... I know those bands are well known... its just the point of it.

Annnnnd I agree with Rat for the most part... so much of Black Metal is crap. Very little of it do I own, because I am VERY particular in what Black Metal I will spend money on, otherwise I'll just go on the Black Metal Radio or myspace...

Yeah I don't care for most black metal either, though I mostly like modern atmospheric black metal and not the old stuff. But I can't rightly say what makes me like band A and dislike band B. Some bands just do it right, and (most) others don't, and I'm more than a bit narrow-minded in the selection process.

Yeah I REALLY enjoy alot of the USBM scene when it comes to bands like Leviathan and Xasthur... Ash is also really good as well. Sunn O))) is good if you like drone...

I love a lot of the "standards" like De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Transylvanian Hunger and pretty much all Burzum. I saw Emperor on the last day of the last LA show, and they are totally one of my favorites but when it comes to shit like Naglefar and Marduk and what have you, I dig it, but I am not passionate about it like I am the others. No real good reason why I just agree with your statement that "Some just do it right,..."

    (edit)

I also forgot to mention Weakling from San Fransisco. I think they are utterly amazing.
