how would you describe being high to someone who never has?

it's one of those paradoxes, like describing colors to a blind person.

to me, the high is akin to the sensation you get when you're lost in a thought but something jolts you back to the present and for a moment you have to reassess where you are, except that little jolt happens every instant. between those little mental bookends are the most fulfilling thoughts and perceptions you can ever experience.

JoeyRamoney, excellent description! That's what I've always akin being high to.

Also, it's as if someone has thrown your time-space continuum into a washing machine filled with hot chocolate.

I agree with KingGeorgeIII. If someone wants to know what its like to be high, then they might as well smoke!

You can't. It's impossible to comprehend an altered state of consciousness without experiencing it.

the feeling when you try and get through a maze-like haunted house with strobelights everywhere.
I remember it happened once and I freaked out because I hadn't smoked that day & felt kind of ridiculous (ie: high)
but maybe that's just me being a creep, who knows

being high is, not being low
when your there ya know your there
many ppl try many ways to get there
some sacrifice a temporary high for a more permenant low
    some just are high
some do the lowest things tryin to get high
some are high all the time without doin a thing
and many find mj a decent high without much low and without much effort
puff a piff and you will see your gonna feel fine in your mind

bear in mind i dont concider all drug experiences to be "high expeiences"

for me, basically you laugh at everything, music is stronger and

you guys remember those loony toon shows, where they would be on the drawing board, and a big REAL pencil would come out of the sky and slowly erase them?

I always thought that would be really trippy to see a realy 3-d pencil if you are a cartoon.

but being high kind of feels like I always imagined that would feel. Like God is erasing my brain with his infinite-D pencil.

I don't know about anyone else, but after going a couple weeks without smoking, even I can't remember why I love it so much. Then I get blazzeeddd and it all becomes clear. :D

i find that my high depends on the type of weed, where i am, who im with, how much smoked, how smoked, etc. but when iv just smoked say a bowl i feel very happy, it makes u forget about all your nagitive thoughts, unless you realy try. its a lot like being drunk i guess but less spinning and more relaxed. as stated above when im realy high im in like too different worlds, one in my imagination and another in reality constantly going in and out. it ticks me off a bit how you always see on tv people who smoke weed and start seeing rainbows and flying, who the hell came up with that theory, it realy gives weed a bad name to people who havnt smokes in my oppinon.

For me, the main effect is a combination of having a really short attention span and having everything be intensified. It feels as though every second is an entirely different world, having absolutely nothing in common with the one which came before it or the one which will come after. I can follow TV shows pretty well, but if I try to write something (for example), sentences end halfway through because I forgot what I was writing, or sometimes I'll forget where the sentence was going in the middle and end up writing something totally unrelated. Music sounds amazing- listening to music is one of my favorite things to do high, especially with a visualizer on (like the one in WinAmp or iTunes)... sometimes the songs tell me stories or I realize that there's a whole other level of meaning to them that I've never noticed before. I also have a hard time understanding actual reality while I'm smoking- how loud sounds actually are, how much time has passed, whether or not I smell like weed, things like that. Everything seems incredibly relative.

I always get the munchies, too. Not hungry, per se, just a feeling of wanting- no, needing- to fucking eat something RIGHT NOW.
