i have a dog whos about 1 and a half years old, hes a german shepherd lab mix, and we adopted him from the humane society. i started traing himfrom the first day we got him, and he was very well behaved up until a few months after he got accustomed to my house, and he started becoming very very hyper, and jumps all guests who come to my house, and is just begging for attention at every waking moment, he never chills out, and is constantly wanting attention, and he gets plenty of it. i dont know what to do, and i dont want to give him away, so can anyone help?

Easy. He's bored and pent up. Try long vigorous walks and long games of retrieving toys or balls, every day, at least twice a day. He sounds like he needs a job too, something he please people doing - train him to do fun tricks and things that work his brain and then practice them several times throughout the day. Train him to bring you specific items, even. Just work his brain and his body, and it may solve the problem... It also may take several days of doing so before he starts to calm down. If he is getting adequate attention, then it sounds like attention isn't what he needs but just to "stretch his legs" in a manner of speaking. Imagine if you were stuck in a cubicle 24 hours a day with nothing to do that held your interest for long and no real exercise except maybe occasional outings - you'd go nuts and be bouncing all over all the time, too. German Shepherds and Labs are both working breeds that want and need to work, they want and need to be kept busy, and most want and need to be exercised a lot. So try it, see if it helps, come back next week if it doesn't. :) LOL!

    all good advice :)
When he jumps on people or jumps on you for attention, immediatly cross your arms, look to the sky, and turn your back to him. He needs to know that jumping will never get him attention. Tell your guests to do the same. I did that with my doggy, she never jumped after that :)

I agree with both pixiewinged and peaceitout on this one for both simple dog training methods, exercise for body/mind, and especially eye aversion therapy is simply the best; since dogs communicate with us humans mostly through eye contact which is truly the window to our mutual souls.
