I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or to help me clear my mind, I meditate and feel a sense of harmony with myself, but it never really lasts that long and about an hour later i feel like i am back where i started again and not making any progress Thanks in advance for your help
What's up man, I dig your screen name. The mars volta are onto something.... Meditation is like defragmenting your hard drive. I've meditated for 15 years now and honestly....my mind is rarely ever "clear" just the way I am. Although when I want to think about something else, I will blurt out gibberish, or hum random mantras this scrambles the unconsciousness.
The idea is to realize what your mind is, to take control of your mind, so that you only think when you choose to for whatever reason. This involves getting more in touch with your subtler inner dialog, which you may choose to manifest or not into thought. Try this, can you think faster? Do you sound each word out in your mind? Try just thinking the words like with speed reading. Now try thinking in a flow of logic that does not use words, so like if you want to think of sofa, then instead of considering the word and what it entails, think of the thing, among which the term sofa is a quality (not to mention a variety of other names in other languages). So, really you could think all the time in this fashion, right? Initially your mind is blocked up in substantial part due to the slowness of your thoughts. Once you can think more quickly, then you eliminate a back-log and eventually you develop a coherent and sound reality model, and when you have a base of operations that you can sturdily stand on without looming questions that threaten to bebunk its veracity, then you can learn how less is more and the beauty of thinking less. But it is natural to be curious and even anxious when you realize the complexity of things but you don't know how it all works or where you fit in. At this stage, consider the value of slack, to what extent you should cut yourself some, in the sense that if you try to do too much at once then you burn out and end up accomplishing less overall. Even better, try to find constructive ways to slack off. An hour's meditation is not short, so good job. When you finish, are you glad to get back to thinking? Because that means you have not meditated as well as you can. Conversely, if you are not really glad to get back to thinking, then why do you still return to your previous thought patterns? You are supposed to be more aware and mindful during meditation, not less, so it's not as though you need to get back to thinking regularly in order to regain your wits about you, unless again your were not meditating as well as you can.
yo that really helped me a lot, i guess what i was doing before was just going back to my pattern of thinking and doing things and it was holding me back from progressing, im still open to new ideas of meditating so post anything that helps you or what you think might help me, thanks a lot and peace out
I wish you all the best! It's going to be an adventure. I can't really say anything more without knowing more specifics about your situation. Feel free to e-mail me if you like, I'd be glad to help where I can.
Sometimes i don't have enough time to meditate or when i need to most i cant always leave and go to a quiet place and meditate, are there any other ways i can bring myself back on the path of spiritual realization while in the middle of work or other things like that? thanks a bunch
go outside- not, like, near a road or anything, but a nice quiet spot. focus on the sounds around you and i mean really focus on 'em. yesterday i meditated in my grandpa's front yard and it was gorgeous out-i concentrated on the birds chirping and the breeze blowing around me and my mind got clear pretty quick. only had time for about 10-15 mins. of it, but it worked really well!
Here's what I do... Close your eyes and imagine a big dumpster or trash can. Anything that comes to mind, throw it in there like a picture. When you run out of things to think about, your done and you can just chill at the black "screen" your looking at.
Let your attention rest on the flow of your breath. Listen to it, follow it, but make no judgments on it (such as "It sounds a little raspy...maybe I'm getting a cold?"). The goal is to allow the "chattering" in your mind to gradually fade away. Find an "anchor" to settle your mind.
