i dont how many of you feel the same but i was noticing the lack of outspoken phylisophical people in our day in age. everyone seems to have shut themselves behind a thick metal door with locks and deadbolts. the only phylosophy i see these days is in bumberstickers which doesnt even really qualify in my book, plus all the bumpersticker wisdom is questions not statements. what happened to all the answers people once possesed? the great Paul Simon once said "the words of the profits are writen on the subway walls." we dont even have that anymore. the last statement i saw spraypainted on a wall was "Fuck Crips" thats all you see, fuck this, fuck that! this is such a prime time to have another outspoken leader like Bob Dylan or Pete Seeger, someone who is willing to get exiled and banished for sticking up for their beliefes. we used to have people who were proud to call themselves American even while they fought its corruption, now it seems that people are doing all they can to convince others they are NOT American, some say they are Canadian while others are saying FUCK canada. i guess the truth is that sociaty isnt ready for someone whiling to fight with words instead of a gun, we're not ready for a leader who say whatever he has to and not raise his fist. why arnt we ready? we were ready 40 years ago! why has society gone downhill? have we become so wrapped up in our own greatness that we have forgotten the simple joys of being a citizen? the ability to say what we want, to speek out against our government and still love our counrty, not hide our face behind someone elses? why?
You have to have your own personal will. Who gives a fuck how stupid the bulk of society is. Focus on your own shit.
=O Most useless post. Win. People in this day and age really don't like confrontation though. I have a lot of radical ideas and whatnot, but I don't like confrontation. Good thing there are people who do. Make the word go round =)
i get the feeling You dont really know what i'm talking about! where's lode? now there's a soul to have a discussion with!
my point was, now is a prime time for people to step forward and bring siciety out of the mess it has gotten itself into, however, it seems to me as tho people are trying to avoid that at all costs, and i have been told, and agree with the fact, that siciety is not ready for that, but why? they were ready 40 years ago, why not now? does that clarify it a little bit?
sure. but what makes you think the 60's generation had the answer? they were just as naive as people are today, as people always have been. society is one big soupy odious mess, it always will be.
I was under the impression that you weren't a fan of mine. Listen, I think relating the greatest artists of the 60's to some shit some wanksta spray painted on a wall is a bit misleading. I feel you may have an overly idealistic view of the times because there were some artists saying some really beautiful things you now enjoy, but that doesn't nessecarily equate the whole time frame with a more mature and nuanced understanding of the issues. What I would argue, is that great art like that, often springs forth in times of great social disorder. As much as things suck now, the 60's were really rough times for a lot of people, and they created some great art work, and now people of your age are overly romantisizing the time. "All authority of any kind, especially in the field of thought and understanding, is the most destructive, evil thing. Leaders destroy the followers and followers destroy the leaders. You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple. You have to question everything that man has accepted as valuable, as necessary" -Krishnamurti.
first off lode, i hold no bad feeling towards u, i treasured that somewhat heated arguement we had! haha i'm not only speaking of the artists of that time, granted i did mention them the most (possibly only), but there were also great leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr.
