The bigger story is that very same airplane on which Hillary rode to Bosnia in went down in flames with Commerce Secretary Ron Brown aboard within a coupla days of Hillarys flight. The indictment of Brown for corruption was just weeks away. Browns demise saved The Administration from a major scandal. Browns body was discovered to have a puncture wound in the skull consistent with a gunshot. Im just flying from memory here, perhaps Rat could back me up with a few links.
(I posted this on another thread, but see this one actually has some discussion so am posting it here ...) CBS led with this story tonight, and have played it up for two nights now. This is fair, considering the circus from the Obama preacher coverage. I loved how on one side of the TV screen HRC is shown in no less than three campaign speeches over the past year saying how she so bravely arrived in Bosnia as first lady, "under sniper fire," forced to "duck and run to the cars." Then on the other side of the screen they show HRC and Chelsea, sauntering from the plane in their leather jackets and mittens, shaking hands, hugging an 8-year-old girl, even taking pictures with a group of 7th-graders! It looked like a fu**ing bake sale! Danger be damned! HRC's got an appointment to keep! C'mere and hug me, little kids! Asked about it today, HRC shrugged and said she "misremembered" the event. Understatement of the year. BTW, I think she got that "misremembered" line from Roger Clemens. Fitting, since both were lying.
Perhaps Mrs. Clinton was really refering to Karl Rove's Right Wing attack machine that was firing missives at her in the media. Her boast was a euphemism. Mrs Clinton got nailed not in a lie but in a grand exaggeration, an embelishment like being named after Sir Edmond Hillary after the conquest of Everest. or the great right wing conspiracy! Al Gore invented the internet. John Kerry was a war hero. The Irish call it Blarney. I'd cut her some slack here. But what about the Really big lies like: Socical Security is solvent or: We can fund universal health care or: We can continue to raise taxes on "the rich" without damaging the economy. Nobody seems to upset by the big lies?
And it's not just her Bosnia trip that is being exposed. "Everything she did was for the optics." I like that. Sums up the role of first lady very well. The first spouse in this country is a ceremonial position. It's "for the optics." It's a pretty (sometimes not so pretty) face to provide news filler. It's like the princess. Give them a pet project, send them off on the jet. Like a PTA for the ruling class. Trouble is, Hillary's only substantive "pet project" was health care reform, and she failed miserably at it. That's her real policy experience in the White House.
