First off, i'm new here, so sorry if i'm not posting in the correct section. I thought of putting my question in the growers section, but i'm a user. x) So i've been smoking regularly for years, and a few weeks ago, i've encountered something new. I bought a fresh quantity that was still a little damp and put it in my airtight, glass jar. before doing this i picked a few buds to toss in a baggie for every day use, and the glass jar is for my "long term" storage. anyway, i came back to the jar and found my weed had a bit of white mold on it, along with some small yellow dots. that's the best way i can describe it. from a distance, it looks like a nice juicy dusting of crystals, but when you look close it's these small yellow spheres. my questions: 1. i've already smoked some of this, how will it effect me? 2. what is it? did i store it wrong? or is it a growing problem? like i said, i've been smoking for a long time, and i know many tricks and have encountered many different types of weed. but this i've never seen. i read in the growers section that someone mentioned maybe too much nitrogen. does this mean it's non smokable? (apart from the mold) this brings me to another question. how did this mold come on so quick? i've kept weed for months in this jar with nothing happening. fuck i've found lost weed in my drawers from god knows when that's still smokable. my only guess is maybe someone sprayed it with water before selling it to add water weight. i know that if someone does this, often it leads to mold. but not the yellow dots, which is why i'm worried. anyway, sorry for this long ass message, but i wanted to ask proper. thanks for anyone who reads this and takes the time to reply. i look forward to any input. cheers.
it probably shouldn't be that wet in the first place. I know someone who keeps his in a jar with a cap of water to keep it moist. Mold can grow in a place with water, so I would dry your pot out before you pack it away. not all the way, but enough that the water isnt soaked into it. Ive had that happen to me but I coulnt tell is it was mould or those crystaly things, I had some weed recently that after I stored it, started secreting theses small yellow spots. but It wasnt mould and I got real high from it. I usualy have to dry out my weed a little more before I store it.
hey guys, thanks for taking the time to reply. now, when i talked about the whole water thing, i was guessing higher up in the chain. when i got it, it wasn't that damp. just normal. but yeah, now i will be much more careful about storing it. normally i toss it directly into the jar without doing any major drying. i looked at the other link, and it's given me a good scare. i don't know what to think. also because i really couldnt' see anything in the pic, other than a shredded pile of green. to see these dots i'm talking about, it's on the outer areas of the bud, before i break it up. they are little independent spheres, yellow coloured. tiny. sort of like how a crystal forms on a bud. anyway, i haven't smoked any of that weed since. i'm working something out with the guy now. to be honest, i'm really just curious to see what it is, because i've been smoking for a while now, and for some periods of time, pretty often. never ever seen this. i have access to a high def camera, i'll see if i can take pics of it. anyway, thanks again.
cool, we'll be here. don't let those folks scare you, they're regular joes in a forum like this, so a lot of people won't know, and maybe some do. for me that pic comes up like 2 big buds and a smaller one behind. looks like someone sprinkled the little yellow spots on it. heres the direct link to the pic, maybe it will work for you that way. http://www.sparkfire.net/f8.jpg anyways, in herbal remedies, there are only a few ways to store things for a long period. Drying thoroughly and storing in airtight containers is my favorite. but yeah, gotta be careful with those molds. good luck
