Closest grow room

*** WOOPS I mispelled closet ***hey guys I just got my first seeds, they are germinating away as we speak! yay

I've been doing some research on what kind of lights i should get. I am growing them in a closet and have a lamp I was gonna stick in there. I am going to get fluorescent lights (going pretty cheap for this) and was wondering what wattage you guys recommend? i'm growing two plants and I was thinking of just getting another lamp so each has its own light source.

I have good soil, got some gravel to allow for proper drainage. bought terracotta planters. Should I put the seeds in a special seedling grower, or is it okay just to put them right into a big ol planter??

If fluorescent lights in my lamp are a bad idea, if anyone has some cheap alternatives.

also, how do i make sure shit doesnt blow up since i'm leaving a lamp on for 20 something hours a day? what is a safe light set up?

 

I really have to write my review of SeeMoreBuds book - Marijuana Buds for Less . He shows a really good starters garden with cfls. Very clean efficient setup. Well worth the $$$.

I went out and bought a seedling start up. Should i allow the seeds to germinate, plant in the seeders, or just put the seeds in now??

I bought 150 watt fluorescent lights, got two lamps in the closet atm waiting for the planters :>

I hope the set up works. Its very cheap, if it doesnt work, oh well!

 

Stick seeds in wet paper towell till they have a little root sticking out, now stick that in the pot of soil, it's just like planting any old plant, give it some water. you never grown anything?

 

nope i have never grown anything! I have a total brown thumb lol

well I kept 4 seeds germinatin' and planted two in a seed starter. now, do I need to have a grow light on these babies? The germinatin' ones are tucked into their paper towels, very snug, dark and wet. lol

this is more of a learning experience, the seeds themself are from middle of the line pot. i'm having fun! I've always wanted to grow a plant but my cats would destroy it in a matter of days.

 

Depends on where ya plan on growing, if you do definately plan on having a closet crop you will need a growlight, which depending on which ones you go after can be rather expensive, in my closet at the moment is a 400 watt metal halide which can be found on things like craigslist for under 150 dollars. They suck a lot of juice and are hot and very bright, when i was a beginner i used two two-foot shoplights with half cool blue flouro tubes, and half warm red tubes. which isnt too pricey and easy to aquire from a hardware store.

 

I have personally grown with flouros and i was not happy with the results the buds (if you could call them that) were very small and pretty much just stalk and hairs. that was with a 4 bulb setup. Ive heard cfls are okay but you should see iff you could get your hands on an hps theres a website that sells a whole setup (bulb, reflector and ballast) preassembled for less than 200 dollars.

im on day 24 and the buds are already twice the size of the finished buds under flouros. But i stuffed a 1000 watt hps in a pretty small closet lol
id still use your flouros for vegetative growth though

as far as your seeds just throw them in a paper towel and wet it and stick it in a baggie and seal it off. check in 2-3 days and you should see a little taproot poking out . put it like 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the soil with the root end facing down.

 

if you use flouros right you can do so much more than with an HID.
