I've thought about taking off to live in the wild many times in my life, but I always wondered where you can actually live, and be free without the state or government officals kicking you off the land, and/or possibly locking you up for killings animals, calling it poaching or animal creulity. Especially when they see you're using body parts for tools, clothes, waterbag, and such. I heard of a guy who gave up on society and was living in the Pine Barrens for a few years when the government finally found him out and made him re-join society by kicking him out. So where can people go and live safe and free? Any help or thoughts on this matter would be greatly appriecated to myself and all who what to try living in the wild. Peace to you
Hawaii is the only place I know of where the land is rich enough to live off of like that. I have know people who live in the mountains and live off of deer and stuff like that but you need a lot of supplies to do that. In Hawaii you don’t need much a tarp and a fishing pole maybe a nice hammock. .
i am currently thinking of quitting society and just living in the wilderness and mountains. living off mother nature and being one with earth, but im not sure if im really going to do it or not yet.
I'll tell you this, if you have any doubt, or even if you "think" you're ready to just go for it, you better think again... it's not as easy as it looks on tv. My suggestion would be to practice your skills and hone them to a functionable level first, then try them out for perhaps long trip. Then work out the bugs on them, and practice other skills as well. Also, hit the local outdoor store and get some water filters and purifying tablets for added precautiong to boiling water 20 minutes. the last thing you need in the wild is getting deathly sick from bad water. May be a good idea to read up on utilizing all parts of an animal for making tools and such, and learning about plant and trees, edible, poisonous, tools making, rope making, etc. Safety first is a must... Peace to you and good luck
answering the original question, i'd say any of the large public parks or forest which are mainly on the western side of the continent. there are two large forests in virginia that might be another option for you. alaska is another as i'm sure you can get lost there.
I would say get a hunting and fishing license and try to get most of your food from the wild first before you go out and try to depend on it. It is hard to live in national forest without the rangers coming after you. In the colder places you need a shelter you can heat with a woodstove and it makes it easy for the rangers to see you. One thing you can do is doing a gold claim on BLM land it is about $150 a year and you have to pretend like you are collecting gold. But they send people out to check on you once in a while. I know a couple of people that did this but they also had some other income to get supplies also. Or Alaska. .
if you know anyone that owns property and wouldn't mind letting you chill and do your non invasive wild living thing on it that could be an option. My partner is out in oregon right now and we're going together with a coupla other folks and getting a gold claim.
Thanks for the info people... Alaska is far too cold for me, and Hawaii won't be much of an island if the polar caps keep melting, I'd feel safer in the mountains somewhere warm most or all of the year. I'd love to go to Va, since I played in the Shenendoa mtns. when I was a kid,but VA is too close to DC, and I'd like some serious distance from there when the shit hits the fan. I'd be lucky to find a place away from a nuclear power place or a military base, but I'm still searching.
Your best bet is probably to save up some money and purchase a few acres. Land is pretty cheap here in the South, though the price has been going up lately because it's all being bought up to make room for more suburbs, mini-malls, banks, churches, etc... If you do go for the option of buying land, make sure there's no building codes so you can build whatever kind of shelter you want on the land without the city coming in and forcing you to tear it down because it's not a 3000 square foot mega mansion energy waster. There's a lot of land here down south where one could live undisturbed for a long time. We've got really warm summers and the winters aren't too bad. Very rarely will the temperature plummet below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The only other places you could live undisturbed would probably be Montana, Idaho, or Alaska and I don't think I could handle the harsh winters.
I have lived in the Rocky Mountain States for a while Idaho, Colorado, Montana. I have met a few people that believe similar things as the whole SHTF and nuclear war stuff. A lot of them moved here because they believe the wind currents will make the air the most survivable and the water will remain live able. Basically that is one of the most survivable regions in the world for a nuclear holocaust or things like that. So they buy an acre or two next to a good water source and a large tract of National Forest and build hideouts and hunting camps in their favorite spots. I don’t spend much time on end of the world thoughts but it seems like that would be a good plain. I have homesteaded in the mountains in Colorado before it was cool after a while it got boring. There is quite a few people living like that where I was by Ward Colorado. But if the whole world went crazy I would get the hell out of the front range of Colorado. There is too many people in Denver the hills surrounding it would just be a big shooting gallery they already are just in hunting season. But there is plenty of spacious mountains not far away and land is cheaper. I have lived out in the forest in Montana also it is a lot harder there the weather is more severe and you have to be very self-sufficient unemployment is very high and what few jobs there is are usually given to family. . If a grown man goes in and asks for food stamps there they will probably tell you the go to hell and kick your ass (for real..). The east of the U.S. just seems to small and undramatic to hide in also way to much population seems like the woods would all get over run. People could probably hide in the big cities in the sewer systems but who wants to do that. If you look at places that have already gone through Anarchy it seems like the only rebel forces that survive are camouflaged in big cities or living like gorillas in a remote place. Probably need somewhere for the younger people to go and hide out while military comes through because they usually take young men and make them fight and rape the women. I don’t really worry about that stuff, today is today. Ok, all this survival stuff has reminded me of a movie I saw a long time ago. It is like the world is collapsed and this guy turns his house in to a compound and he has this girl in a plaid school dress locked in his basement. Does anyone know this movie and what it is called?
If you live withon 100 miles of the Atlantic Ocean, you live in a cesspool. Or close enough to smell it. I can't wait to get out of here.
wow, this is amazing information. its good to see other people have shared the same point of view I have been DREAMING about. what about clans of people? perhaps not going out in the wilderness alone is a very good idea, but are there people who do who can accept outsiders who can commit to learning trades and living in peace out in the wilderness with them? i mean that is how humans work right? family units and groups? Are there any out there that you know of? or perhaps even heard of?
I figured it out the movie was Def-Con 4 and I think the girl was Lenore Zann. I looked up some pictures of her and I was disappointed she is old now she was hot in the movie. But I guess the movie is more then 20 years old. I can’t remember if the movie was any good, I saw it a long time ago the reviews aren’t that good for it. All I really remember is the girl in the prep school uniform. ^The Rainbow family?
There are plenty of places around the world which are desolate enough for you to turn your back on society altogether. You can practice in rural areas locally first, to develop your skills, before going for that spot 400 miles from the nearest road. In my case and what I'm trying to achieve, I actually still need the rest of the world on my doorstep - or at least a couple of hours away anyway. A lot of people are saying go and buy land and build your mudhut or whatever, so you can do your thing to a limited extent and people can't stop you. But how does that make you different to the mainstream world, getting your own little corner of the world and making it yours? It's not yours - it's the Earth's! Perhaps just living in "the wild" regardless of who owns the land and without permission is where it's at. In fact, doing your best not to be discovered has to be much more eco-friendly since you would be looking for a tiny foot print... rather than these lavish large Yurts (for example) and all these ancillaries of solar panels, generators and personal transport (even if just a horse) as part of your "eco" lifestyle. You're not really turning your back on society if you end up buying some of society's land to live in your "alternative" house... you're just the same as everybody else but with a different set of clothes.
Right on Jules. I'd ask permission though. And I have modest solar panels for my small, modest 4m yurt
Well you're entitled to your opinion, but that's the type of attitude we're trying to get away from. My opinion is people that don't know where were coming from, won't ever understand, so they lash out at us. If you like society the way it is, then fine, that's great, but don't try to tell us how we should be, act, or live!!! I've had it with society and all their trends and if you don't follow them, you're not accepted and outcast. Well I never follow anything- it's hard enough just to be yourself in a world of followers and ignorance beyond societies comprehension. I've had it with their control issues and programming devices. I'm not them, I am me, and that's it. I'm more respectful of the earth than you can imagine, it's the towns and cities that make the footprints... we earth lovers know that we belong to the earth and the earth doesn't belong to us, so we work with nature, not against it. Society, and their so called "normal ways of thinking" is destroying the natural world every second, every day and they call it "progress", which in the end is all about money and power. So have fun and enjoy your precious society while you still have it, because I'm leaving it, and so are many others. And by the way, my clothes may be muddy from working on my footprint, but they're never dirty and never will be... Peace to you anyways, Spirit Wynd
LOL, you have pretty much identical views to me Spirit_Wynd, so not sure why you're being hostile to me - read my post again!
Yeah I don't get it either. Some of us are trying to make our lives on the sacred mother while disturbing as few grains of her sand as possible. Whether we succumb to the sickness of Babylon or avoid it altogether shouldn't be an issue. It's not about where but about how, or at least it should be.
Sorry man, not intended to be hostile, I was a bit irritable after just waking up... maybe I just needed to vent... I think I was yelling more at society than at you, lol.
