Dog Fighting - Respectable tradition or ugly sport?

i don't agree with forcing animals through suffering for entertainment. but do you think i go out and stalk and shoot an elk just because i want food? i WANT to kill it and i WANT to watch it die. i want to touch it's blood, hold it's heart in my hand, pull it's skin from it's body and haul it out of the woods while it's gut pile sits there for the carrion, coyotes and mountain lions. because watching something like that reminds you, you're just another pile of meat that something else is waiting to eat. i don't want them to suffer, but need to know and remember that yes, suffering happens. even in suburbia. yes, it is symbolic for me. i won't have that belittled. i don't quite understand the dogfighting thing, i love dogs. but for loads of people out there, dogs are just another elk.

 

Why would anyone want to kill something just to kill it. That is the sign of some serious issues.

If i was starving in the woods for days id be blood thirsty too, but i would never want to see an animal suffer.

 

i don't JUST want to kill it. i want to eat it. but i want to kill it myself. i think a sign of serious issues is eating with without ever seeing what it went through. that's cold blooded.

 

I don't feel like talking about how evil that "sport" is. I do feel like telling you (Adam) that you are an idiot to keep Vick stuff.

But what the fuck does eating meat have to do with getting off on watching two dogs going at it?

 

Yeah well, that's cruel too. It still isn't remotley as cruel as people who train dogs to be menaces to society that escape and maul children as both rat and I have pointed out, and let them tear themselves limb from limb on a daily baisis.

Many people have enough suffering in their lives to understand it without ritually killing an animal. Furthermore, at least you don't bask in the suffering, it would be a comparison of locking an elk in a small cage and stoning it to death, versus hunting.

You're defending the worst sorts of animal cruelty by saying, 'well I like to hunt.' That shows no perspective on the issue.

 

it's okay. i've been hammered on because i'm an unrepentant subsistence hunter who fully acknowledges the ugliest portions of my hind brain. can't really get down on anyone else for occasionally letting their own get the best of them. you see something deserving of defense, you rip out the throat of anything or anyone who gets in your way. totally understandable.

 

I eat meat, I don't have the cows fight each other to the death while I place bets and then walk away from the corpses...

 

i didn't say i was okay with dogfighting. i did, however, say that i can see why people who don't view dogs as anything other than meat don't have a problem with watching them fight. it's just a foreign mentality. remember, loads of poeple eat dogs. my grandpa's tribe were called the dog eaters, you know.

 

I've eaten animals I've killed too. That doesn't mean I condone having two dogs forced to brutally murder each other daily for the enjoyment of betting. That doesn't make me a hypocrite.

 

i get the point here... killing is a primal instict and all that good stuff.


but the fact is that even if to a lot of people dogs are just another elk, pressed rat is correct in saying that these types of things can put a lot of people in danger. which is pretty stupid. i mean i would be pissed if my child was mauled by a dog but i would be even more pissed if i found out that that dog had been trained to do that...

 

you ever enjoy watching a couple of elk or bulls fight? i have. they're vicious when they wanna be. and it's AWESOME. like watching bear or mountain lions go at it. it's breathtaking, terrifying and amazing. and yeah, i'd likely eat whatever was left over.

 

What the fuck deserves defense here?

 

comparing it to nascar was just stupid. they choose to drive around in freaking circles for hundreds of miles.

these dogs don't choose to fight each other...they have no need to fight each other like this. its terrible. they don't gain anything from winning a fight - well, maybe they'll get treated a bit better than the rest of the dogs...
