So I went down to the dining hall to get some food. I walked into the walk-in fridge and I opened the door and slammed my big toe into it. It hurt, but didn't think anything of it...so I get my food and a drink, bring it back to my room and suddenly I'm noticing wetness and red stuff everywhere.

I've got blood all over my sheets, my pants, my comforter...I'm, like, what the crap? Then I look down and my whole foot is covered with blood. I get out my first aid kit and start cleaning it up. You can see the meat in my big toe. I'm pretty sure I need stitches, but there is only a clinic on the island and it's two hours, driving, one way...and I can't drive any of the company vehicles AND it's a Saturday night.

I used a couple of butterfly sutures and now Im just hoping for the best.

Now I'm busy washing my sheets and comforter. Dammit~

well unless its a real big cut thats real deep butterfly always works. i have never had stiches but there been many times where butteflys always worked. socks work well to hold blood tell the cut stops. bloody socks are only gross for one night. then you much better.

i would think butterflies would work on anything you could do with a walkin door...

i didn't realize your island was so big; i actually thought it was just you guys taking up pretty much the whole thing...

good luck but i think you'll be fine..

yeah it's about 22 miles long...and I'm at the entirely opposite end of the island. It's really mountainous, so you can only go between 17 (which is the speed limit, techinically) and 25...so that's why it takes two hours to get to the clinic.

My friend at work is an old hippie (not really old, like 47, but still a hippie) and she swears by super glue. "Works better than any stitches," she told us. If all else fails, super glue never killed her. Do you guys have a Wal-Mart or anything of the sort closer than the medical center? If so, go and get some liquid skin. Hospitals use that in place of stitches every day.

I think we have medical superglue somewhere here...not sure where. I live on an island...the only chain stores we have are two hours away...and they are Radio Shack and Cold Stone Creamery.
