hi everyone so i'm just wondering what you can recommend to me to help me keep healty. i try to take care of myself as best as i can but i still get run down a lot. what is something that will help boost my immune system and keep me healthy?? i eat as healthy as possible, but i don't have a lot of money. this tends to leave me with a lot of things like fruit, toast and soup. i really don't get enough protien. i try to eat well but i just .... have no money and everything hurts my stomach. so eating is mostly just a damn hassle. anything that you could recommend to me, things that i REALLY should be concerned about trying to supplement or anything, or maybe suggestions of cheap food that is easy to prepare that will magically make me healthy and have super powers ?? (including x-ray vision?) i wish there was just like a pill i could take every morning that would give me everything i needed to be healthy!!!
organic apple cider vinegar is very good for you, read this http://www.lacetoleather.com/wonderdrug.html You can eat 3 brazill nuts a day also very good for you.lots of good stuff in them. chick peas and lentals are cheap mmmmm .I had my biological age tested and it sed i had the body of a 21 year old then i started eating lental and now have the body of a 17 year old yay.
bone broths are a good start. my neighbour is a butcher, and he told me that they throw away lots of chicken necks and backs. you could probably get them for free from your local butcher. and read Nourishing traditions. good info in that book. might not get your x-ray vision, but it'll be a really good start on the road to health. back to the bone broth thing--nourishing traditions says that if you use bone broths that your body wont need as much protein from other sources.
You are still probably getting all the protein you need. We really don't require all that much protein. If you are concerned, try adding some peanuts to your diet, or cottage cheese with the fruit. Alternately, you can get some protein powder and make a shake. I would recommend that you supplement your diet daily with: #1 multivitamin/multimineral tablet (synthetic or natural, your choice) #1 vitamin C 500mg, once or twice a day(synthetic is absorbed better than natural sources) #1 B-complex 50, once or twice a day (great for energy)(synthetic or natural) #1 vitamin E 200IU (mixed tocopherols, preferably natural) #3 calcium/magnesium/zinc tablets, in 2 or 3 divided doses. (ie, one with breakfast, lunch, dinner, or one with breakfast, two with dinner.) --------------------------------------------- I would also add to that: #5 Metamucil capsules daily (natural psyllium husk fiber) at bedtime (yes, 5 of them. None of us gets enough fiber. It helps your body to move cholesterol and unhealthy substances through the digestive tract so you excrete them quicker. It makes your digestive system healthier overall, which greatly improves immune response) #1 fish oil capsule, 1000mg, twice a day. We are all deficient in essential fatty acids. (ie Omega 3, 6, and 9) #1 Culturelle Brand lactobacillus capsules (fairly pricey, they are clinically proven to provide beneficial intestinal flora, improving immune response and better digestion, fewer yeast infections, vaginal, systemic, or oral. They also significantly increase the availability of the B vitamins) I know this seems like alot, but it is safe and will make you feel better. It will be a pretty substantial financial investment at first, but if you buy large bottles, and look for vitamin sales (which are pretty frequent) the cost isn't so bad per day. Get generic everything except for the Culturelle. I personally wouldnt pay extra for any natural vitamins except vitamin E. Natural vitamin E may have some additional benefits. With the rest of the vitamins, your body cannot tell the difference between natural and synthetic, so I prefer the cheapest, usually synthetic. Good luck, I hope you feel better.
Make sure you are drinking alot of water, at least a gallon a day. 100% whole wheat bread instead of white for your toast. Yogurt can help your digestion, just read the label and get the stuff that says "made with active (or live) cultures. It also has protein. Peanut butter and beans are cheap protein sources. Try cheese or cottage cheese. Whole grains like the 100% whole wheat bread and brown rice also contain protein and are cheap. Eggs are cheap too. Since your $ are limited I would buy a store brand of daily multiple/vitamin tablets (make sure your vitamin contains iron) and just take those instead of buying more suppliments. Make sure you are getting enough sleep!
8 to 10 8oz glasses of water should be consumed each day, on top of whaterver else you drink. That is more like 2 liters, or about a half-gallon, I believe. (8oz = 240mL, 1000mL = 1 L, and I think a gallon is 4000mL)
lentil and vegetable soup, cheese on toast, peanut butter are good for protein and healthy-ish.. you could also try taking multi-vitamins and echinacea which is meant to be good for you immune system. Hope this helps,
Just a thought, Serra, have you had your B12 level checked lately? You might want to do that, people with low B12 (especially of the female persuasion) tend to have lower immune systems. AND since you're in Canada, if you need B12 shots (I get them, they're not so bad) it's covered by insurance and will cost you about two bucks every 2 or 3 months.
for a cheap healthyfood look around for dried beens. (kidny been etc). verry good for you, verry cheap, and thiers lots of foods you can use them in. and be sure to look for mexican herb called epezote, its soposed to cut down intestinal gass when eating high fibre been based diets I ve seen beens sold in in 50 pound bags at the asian market near where I live. cost around $50-70 a bag, but its prolly enough food to feed a famly for a few months same thing thing rice (brown not white), lentils, dried pees, dried barly... etc. http://www.bulkfoods.com/beans_seeds.asp?REFERER=ovdribea
don't forget the exercise. Get out and move, because that helps the elimination part, speeds good stuff to the cells and you get an endorphin high. For the first few weeks it will feel forced and then breakthrough day! Remember, it's not a chore, it's an excuse to go dancing!
Make sure you eat a couple of servings of fruit, veggies, protein (nuts or beans), whole wheat bread and lots of water. You can find all of these things on sale at different types of grocery stores. Also, get some multi-vitamins. Even Flinstones vitamins are just as good. Plus do not forget to exercise. You do not need any money to go walk or run outside. Even going dancing is really good for you. Not to mention it's good for the soul. Defiently do some streatching every day. This will prevent any type of muscle pulls or strains (this is one thing that too many people neglect). Even save up some money and you could get a really great DVD or video tape on yoga. Yoga really does wonders for the body and soul. Good Luck with your new activities.............. ~namaste~
